Per Brett via Twitter
Sergio provided more than $5 million in value to the #WhiteSox this season alone—$7.5 over the next 3 years projects as quite a bargain.
oh, god. is he crying again?
Some people get so rich they lose all respect for humanity. That's how rich I want to be.

Hm. That's nearly identical to Joakim Soria's deal, which was $8.75 million over three years followed by three club options.

Dotel was $11M over 2 years, too.
Fat Jenks at $7.5M, also. Yeah, we are good.

Seems pretty fair, especially if he continues to improve in the Closer's role.
Furious George! What happened to your beautiful face?!?
oh snap, angel stadium's gonna be swimming in #46 shirseys next year.
I love seasons too. That's why I live in a place that skips the shitty ones.
Specifics
The contract includes three guaranteed years (including his first two years of arbitration) and club options from 2015-2017. He’ll make $1 million next season, $2.75 million in 2013 and $3.75 million in 2014. Meanwhile, the team options include $6 million for 2015, $8 million for 2016 an $8.75 million for 2017. Santos, a former infielder, thrived after unexpectedly being thrust into the closer role earlier this season, posting a 3.55 ERA, 30 saves and a 92/29 K/BB ratio over 63 1/3 innings. Assuming the 28-year-old right-hander remains healthy, this could be a great deal for the White Sox.
(I got it from http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3440245&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=9#post396059705
dunno where he got it from, I’m lazy.)
Great value in my book when you consider the ratio of guaranteed vs non-guaranteed.
This deal is NOTHING like the Linebrink deal.
Nice
What’s the going rate per WAR in FA these days? 5M? fWAR had him at 1.5 WAR this year, so even if he regresses, White Sox will be getting good value…

Amazing that the Rays can do what they do
Of course, ESPN is sure to repeat this over and over and over. The fans don’t even deserve the team. My cousin that lives in St. Pete doesn’t want them to build a new stadium because “it will ruin the view”.
I agree 100%
The players and management deserve much better, I have a feeling they may move soon though. If the whitesox had a 91 win team, the cell would prob be sold out for every game. I also hate Rays fans that claim the reason they don’t show up to games is because the stadium sucks, since when did people start going to games to be in nice stadiums??
I heard going there takes three years off your life expectancy.
"Many people need desperately to receive this message: 'I feel and think much as you do, care about many of the things you care about, although most people do not care about them. You are not alone.'"
I'm just saying
that true fans go support the players. Think about how demoralizing for the players it must be to play well and see half the stadium empty for all their home games.
If the Sox played in a godawful dome like that, I would attend far less games in person.

Even if they are a 90+ win team?
The thing is, there weren’t even 30,000 fans in attendance(less than 25,000 for the first two games) during that last series against the Yankees, with the chance to play in the PLAYOFFS. Even during that world series season in 2008, their attendance was shit.

yeah, its in St. Pete, which is a long drive over a bridge from either Tampa or Clearwater
and you have to be wu’s age or older to live in St. Pete proper.
Throw in the fact that its the shittiest stadium since the astrodome and it all adds up.
Ha. My friends live in St. Pete.

The Latest On Terry Francona - Coop likes him
As we learned last night and early this morning, the Red Sox and long-time manager Terry Francona are parting ways. Let’s round up the latest on both the man and the team…
White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper is pushing for Francona, reports Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com (on Twitter). Cooper recently received a contract extension despite Ozzie Guillen’s departure.

I know they are going to convert Sale to a starter next year, but has there been any discussion of doing the same with Santos?
He doesn’t have a lot of “miles” on his arm, and motion doesn’t look particularly destructive to the elbow or shoulder…is this crazy to even suggest, or will they consider it if perhaps Danks declines an extension and gets packaged with dead weight in a trade?
Thornton, Crain, and maybe Reed can hold down the pen, and Santos could bring a ton of value as a starter. The only reason I can think to avoid the conversion would be the whole “he’s still adjusting as a major league pitcher and petered off in the second half this year” argument, but wouldn’t it be worth the risk? He can always go back to the pen, and hopefully the new manager won’t care as much about the whole single closer title.
Thoughts?

I thought I could either flush you out
or sneak it by in your absence…either way I was just kidding.
You inspired me to query Goldstein
Only if they got very very drunk first. RT @JRFegan: @Kevin_Goldstein Should WSox ever try to turn Santos in a SP?
He is not bullish
If they here drunk they would turns him back into a shortstop
if the were high they would make him a starter.
which one are you?

Both
i should really proofread, christ. Ever since i started commenting on iphone my communication has been dumbed down due to laziness. Thumbitis
So in other words, Goldstein thinks Ozzie would have pushed for converting him eh?
Any good reason why the reaction would be so strong against the idea? It seems like a no-brainer to try…but obviously Goldstein thinks the inverse.

Sounds like an invitation to trouble
Granted, Alexi Ogando does exist, he’s been pitching a couple years more and had actually started a couple games in the minors.
Santos would be tripling his innings load from this year, when he flagged a bit toward the end. Pitching is hard. Guys who have spent their whole lives pitching have serious growing pains. Santos has only pitched for 3 years and never been asked to start.
No sense tempting fate. He’s demonstrated he can be an effective reliever. If there’s a rotation hole it would be better to just ask Coop to salvage a disposable veteran on a 1 year deal, than to role the dice and hope Santos can jump to advanced pitching overnight. Plus between Sale and Peavy, asking New Manager to be relatively careful with 2 starters is enough limitation for 1 year.
A quick question
I created an Illustration of Ozzie in that ridiculous Miami Marlins’ supposed uniform design, but the site won’t allow me to post it as a FanShot, for some reason. Would it be in bad taste if I were to post it here?
