In Memoriam: Ray Olmedo

Stay connected for news and updates

Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

November 25, 2011 - October 10, 2012

We are gathered here today to remember Rainer Gustavo "Ray" Olmedo. He came to us as a minor league free agent on November 25, 2011. Today, he leaves us.

Ray played most of the season with Triple-A Charlotte. He was called up to the White Sox on July 29, 2012, to replace Eduardo Escobar, who had been traded to the Minnesota Twins. Today, October 10, 2012, the White Sox outrighted him back to Charlotte and, instead, he elected minor league free agency.

My favorite Ray Olmedo memory is that I have no recollection from the season of anything related to Ray Olmedo. Apparently, he played in 20 games and got 42 plate appearances. I think that maybe I had him confused with someone else. Or maybe it was his predilection for wearing sunglasses indoors that hid his visage from my searching gaze. Whatever it was, I don't know.

Please add your memory - or at least your name - to the guestbook below.
