Ozzie Guillen fired from Marlins

Hit the road - Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

The Marlins did what the White Sox should have done years ago, when they fired Ozzie Guillen on Tuesday.

The Miami Marlins fired Ozzie Guillen on Tuesday afternoon after one disappointing season. The former White Sox manager had three years and $7.5 million left on his four-year deal he signed at the end of the 2011 season. The Marlins have decided that it was better to pay him off than keep him around.

In a statement released by the team, Marlins president Larry Beinfest said "After careful consideration following the disappointment of the 2012 season, we decided to dismiss Ozzie".

After trading Heath Bell last week, speculation was that Guillen would stay on for another year, but the Marlins decided to get rid of them both. Guillen has a 747-710 career record as a manager, with the 2005 World Championship.

Between the Bell drama, the Castro comments that outraged the local community and his willingness to let Joey Cora do all the work, the Marlins had enough.

The White Sox traded Guillen to the Marlins for RP Jhan Marinez and INF Osvaldo Martinez on September 29th, 2011. Only Marinez remains as Martinez was sold to the Dodgers in July.
