David Richard-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Dan Johnson hit three homers, and his teammates joined in the fun to end a mixed-bag of a season on a high note.

Dan Johnson, who made a name for himself by hitting the game-tying homer in the last regular-season game for the Tampa Bay Rays last year, hit three tonight.

Of course, Hector Gimenez had three hits, and even Rey Olmedo chipped in with a single and a double, so good luck deriving meaning from anything. That goes for Dayan Viciedo, too, who capped off a monster series with one more big game. He homered in his last at-bat (the front end of a back-to-back deal with Johnson), which gives him a couple of nice(r) numbers to take home with him -- 25 homers and a .300 OBP.

Take all the hard-hit balls by White Sox (and KnightSox) hitters, combine it with seven shutout innings from Gavin Floyd, and it's a nice way to wrap up a season. It might not be the playoffs, but 85 wins is better than 84. And for Floyd, 12-11 is better than 11-11. He finishes with his first winning record since 2008.

Paul Konerko also joined in the fun by hitting a two-run homer, his 26th of the season. If he was concerned about finishing at .300, that didn't quite work for him. He grounded into a double play in his final at-bat, cementing his average at .298.

For the record, Leyson Septimo turned out the lights on the season by retiring all four batters he faced.
