John Danks - Jonathan Daniel
The left-hander has begun a throwing program
CSN's Dan Hayes reports that John Danks is ahead of schedule in his recovery from surgery on his left shoulder. The 27 year old left-hander began a two month-plus throwing program on Monday and has already thrown twice this week.
This news comes just over three months after his surgery, which cut short the first year of Danks' 5 year, $65 million contract extension. His throwing program is designed for Danks to be ready on opening day of the second year of his contract, though the return of Jake Peavy to the White Sox rotation gives the White Sox six projected starting pitchers (Peavy, Danks, Gavin Floyd, Jose Quintana, Chris Sale and Hector Santiago), which should lessen any urgency to return quickly.
His throwing program calls for him to throw Monday, Wednesday and Friday until early January. Danks would then move on to his usual offseason throwing program.
Danks made all of his scheduled 40 pitches on Wednesday, suggesting that he recovered from his Monday session without any issues.
