White Sox selling hard to families on Sundays

RUNNING ONTO FIELD TO MEET DAYAN VICIEDO NOT INCLUDED - David Banks

"A ballclub never stands so tall as when it stoops to make its games affordable to children." -- Abraham Lincoln or Mark Twain or Mr. Belvedere or somebody

Back when the Sox announced their first wave of ticket price reductions, I had also learned that they planned to lower parking to $10 on Sunday. Singling out Sunday for the special parking price, rather than a midweek day where the average pull is lower, gave some hints that they might trying to use that day to sell hard to families.

That hunch was confirmed -- and confirmed hard -- today when the Sox announced the creation of "Family Sundays," which lowers the price considerably for getting to and into the park with:

  • $10 parking, which we already knew.
  • $15 tickets for the bleacher, outfield reserved, lower corner and premium upper box sections.
  • $10 ticket for upper box and upper reserved sections.
  • $5 tickets for the upper corner sections.

That is a pretty impressive reduction. A family of four can get seats for upper deck for $30 before fees, which is clearance-rack pricing compared to what it was. And along with the tickets, the Sox will hold autograph sessions for kids with current and former players, plus a run around the bases after the game when the weather cooperates.

Here's the full press release. I don't have kids, so I can't speak authoritatively on the matter, but I'm guessing this is going to change some family plans next summer, because even without kids, this is pretty sweet.
