White Sox prospect Brandon Short out for season with torn labrum

We won't see this in 2012.

Outfielder Brandon Short, who dislocated his left shoulder during yesterday's game in a collision with the center field wall, will miss the entire 2012 season after his MRI revealed that the dislocation also resulted in a torn labrum. He will require surgery to repair the damage to his non-throwing shoulder.

Short, who spent the 2011 season with Double-A Birmingham, was not expected to make the opening day roster but was in major league camp as a non-roster invitee and hoping to make an impression on the new White Sox coaching staff. I ranked him as the #9 prospect in the organization (prior to the acquisition of Simon Castro, which bumps Short back a spot) and described him as a possible fourth outfielder.

Short would have likely spent the 2012 season with Triple-A Charlotte with an eye towards a September call-up. He is only 23 years old but it is of course never good to miss an entire baseball season. This injury is a hit to his already marginal prospect status.
