Leyland stepping down as Tigers manager

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Leyland managed the Tigers to four ALCS appearances and two pennants in eight seasons.

Multiple sources are now reporting that Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland will be stepping down.

The Tigers have put together a 700-597 record under Leyland with two AL pennants in 2006 and 2012.  The Tigers also made it to the ALCS in 2011 and 2013, making it to the playoffs four out of his eight years in Detroit.  He was also named the AL Manager of the Year in 2006.

Leyland has an overall record of 1769-1728 over 22 seasons. Starting as the Pittsburgh Pirates manager in 1986, Leyland managed there for 11 seasons.  The Pirates won division titles under Leyland in 1990, 1991, and 1992.  He then moved onto the Florida Marlins where he managed them to his only World Series win in 1997. After going 58-104 in Florida the next season, Leyland spent one season  with the Colorado Rockies in 1999.
