White Sox move 10 players in second round of cuts

After today's victory over the Colorado Rockies, the White Sox made their second round of cuts, sending 10 players back to minor-league camp:

The most interesting cut of this bunch is Castro, who had a tremendous spring and showcased the stuff that made him a highly touted prospect for San Diego a few years back. He struck out nine over seven innings, while allowing just a run on three hits and a walk. I figured he might hang around longer thanks to Jesse Crain's uncertain status, but the Sox have enough potential relievers to preserve Castro's starting routine this early in the game.

Joining Castro on his way to Charlotte's camp is Rodriguez, who was Castro's polar opposite in terms of performance. He finished with a 23.62 spring ERA, and it could've been worse since two of the nine runs he allowed were unearned. He walked seven batters on top of six hits over 2⅔ innings.

Among position players, Trayce Thompson heads back to minor-league camp without a hit to his name. He went 0-for-14 over 18 plate appearances. The good news? He had the same amount of walks and strikeouts (four apiece), so he didn't look overmatched. He just produced a lot of ordinary outs when he put the ball in play. Everybody else had their nice moments, but weren't expected to play into the second half of March.

With two fat-trimming cuts out of the way, the remaining players are mostly a group of guys considered to be closest to major-league ready (or at least as developed as they get). Filtering out the presumptive 25-man roster and the organizational, non-roster-invtee types, here are the remaining limbo-state players:

Position players: Jared Mitchell, Carlos Sanchez, Brent Morel, Blake Tekotte, Josh Phegley, Bryan Anderson, Jordan Danks

Starters: Dylan Axelrod, Andre Rienzo

Relievers: Deunte Heath, Jhan Marinez, Brian Omogrosso, Leyson Septimo
