In a few weeks, the 2013 Sox baseball season will be a mere memory, stored in the Laughable Season section of our brains, right next to dear ol' 2007. I won't pretend that I haven't already been looking forward to the post-and-off-season. It's rare for me to feel anxious for winter; but an Icelandic and European adventure awaits me in a few months.
Since booking my flights in February, it's been easy enough to curb the excitement and watch my money automatically float away into trip savings each month. But now it's about time to finalize some plans, book some hotels, and get my gear in order.
I don't intend to bring much with me. Some good layering clothes, a pair of boots, and a lot of space in my over-sized backpack, so I can fill it with treasures along the way. I get the feeling I'll be joyfully sucked right into the warm winter atmosphere that is Christmastime in Bavaria.
Any rumpusers familiar with this neck of the woods, Salzburg, Belgium, Amsterdam, or Iceland? I'd love to read some first-hand recommendations of sights to see, places to eat and stay, live music venues, trails to hike, and so forth. The more natural beauty, the better! Though there will be many museums and cathedrals along the way too, so I'm open to anything you've loved about these countries. And yes, YES, you guys oh my god you guys, I will absolutely be spending a day at the Cantillon Brewery in Brussels (mmmmmbacteriaaa).
So, what's all y'alls big plans for this winter/off-season?
