Today the Chicago White Sox announced Saturday that they have acquired pitcher Frank De Los Santos from the Tampa Bay Rays for cash considerations or a player to be named later. De Los Santos, a left handed reliever, was on the Rays 40 man roster and has never played in the major leagues. De Los Santos was added the White Sox 40 man roster, but has not been added to the active major league roster.
Even though Jesse Crain was traded to the Rays in July for a player to be named later, this is a separate trade. Based on a report from the Tampa Bay Times, the roster spot opened on the Rays by this trade may be used to activate Jesse Crain.
The 25 year old De Los Santos has spent seven years in the Rays minor league system. This was his second season pitching for the AAA Durham Bulls. He also spent time this season on the Ray's Gulf Coast and Carolina League teams while rehabbing from injury this season. Here's how De Los Santos did this year.
