As we head into the final weekend prior to the Winter Meetings, news on a possible Jeff Samardzija trade to the White Sox or anywhere else has gone quiet. The good news here is that all the trade rumors with Samardzija have gone quiet. Meanwhile, it sounds like the White Sox have been checking in with available right-handed starters.
As of last Sunday, the only known team in the running for Jeff Samardzija is the Red Sox. The Red Sox are also having a busy offseason themselves after the signings of Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez. The rumors have a high price for Samardzija and Marcus Semien and Tim Anderson have been named as possible White Sox parts of the trades.
Yesterday, Jon Heyman wrote about the White Sox' interest in multiple free agent right handed starters including Max Sherzer, David Price, and Ervin Santana. Along with these big name free agents, the target of the Alexei Ramirez to the Dodgers trade rumors might not have been one of the Dodgers many outfielders, but might have actually been Zack Greinke.
While the tendering news didn't go exactly as expected, Rick Hahn looks to be an active player at the Winter Meetings again this year. He also may be going in with a shorter untouchables list since he might have to dip into that pool to make some moves happen.
