In a slidewhistle-up, slidewhistle-down move, the White Sox have reinstated Javy Guerra from the 15-day DL. They have also designated him for assignment.
Guerra came to the Sox from the Dodgers at the end of spring training last season off waivers and started the season at Charlotte. He was called up in the end of May and brought a modest amount of stability with him. He pitched in 42 games for the Sox last season with a 2.91 ERA / 3.95 FIP.
As with most of the bullpen, the additions of Robertson, Duke, and Jennings made the remaining spots a little tougher to come by. Guerra made it through the spring on the 25-man roster, but was put on the DL for shoulder inflammation when Carlos Rodon joined the team meaning his tenuous grasp on the 25-man roster was in trouble.
Last night, things didn't go Javy's way at his Charlotte rehab assignment. In ⅔ of an inning, he gave up five hits and five runs with one strikeout.
At least we'll always have this Javy.
After this move, the 40-man roster is down to 39.
