Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - Texas Rangers catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia is out for the rest of the season after suffering a strained muscle in his right forearm during Monday's 12-6 loss to Seattle. In the fifth inning, the catcher fielded a ball that ricocheted off pitcher Matt Harrison's foot and threw awkwardly to first. He hit the ground in pain but left the field under his own power. Saltalamacchia was 0-for-1 at the plate and is now hitting .253 with three homers and 26 RBI in 60 games this year. Taylor Teagarden, who was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma before the game, replaced Saltalamacchia behind the plate and hit a three-run homer in the setback. Teagarden and Gerald Laird are expected to split time behind the plate for the remainder of Texas' season.
