Recap: Colorado vs. San Francisco

Sports Network | September 03, 2008

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Ryan Spilborghs singled in the winning run in the 12th inning, lifting Colorado over San Francisco, 6-5, at Coors Field. Troy Tulowitzki clubbed a two-run homer and Omar Quintanilla added a pair of hits and two runs scored. It was the fourth straight home win for the Rockies, who go for the three-game sweep Wednesday afternoon. They've won seven of 10 overall. Despite a 66-74 record, the defending National League champions are hanging around in the playoff race. The Rockies are five games behind Arizona for first place in the NL West. Jason Grilli (3-1) pitched the final three innings for the win, while Keiichi Yabu (3-6) was tagged with the loss. Omar Vizquel had three RBI for the Giants, losers of five in a row. Tim Lincecum, who was gunning for his 16th win of the year, yielded five hits and five runs over five innings. He also had six strikeouts for the Giants. Livan Hernandez surrendered five hits and four runs over the first 5 1/3 innings for Colorado. Nate Schierholtz singled to begin the San Francisco 12th, but he was left stranded at second base. In the bottom half, Quintanilla singled to right with one out and Matt Holliday walked. Brian Wilson then came in from the bullpen, but Spilborghs punched an opposite-field hit down the right field line. Holliday singled in a run and scored on a Brad Hawpe triple during a five-run fourth inning. Chris Iannetta singled home another run before Tulowitzki homered to left. Vizquel stroked a two-run double in the fifth and the Giants tied the game in the sixth. Emmanuel Burriss singled in a pair and Vizquel added an RBI base hit.
