Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Troy Glaus, Yadier Molina and Felipe Lopez homered off Yusmeiro Petit to carry St. Louis over the struggling Diamondbacks, 8-2, sending Arizona to its seventh loss in nine contests. Arizona's lead dipped to 1 1/2 games over the Dodgers in the NL West. Los Angeles won at home over San Diego, 8-4, Tuesday night. Adam Wainwright (8-3) doubled in two runs and had seven strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings to win his third straight decision. He gave up three hits and a run. The Cardinals snapped a four-game skid and will try to win the rubber match of the three-game set Wednesday afternoon. Tuesday's triumph also snapped a seven-game slide for the Cardinals at Chase Field. David Eckstein and Adam Dunn each singled in a run for Arizona, which went 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Petit (3-4) gave up four hits and five runs over 4 2/3 innings for the Cardinals, who are 5 1/2 games behind Milwaukee in the wild card race. Cesar Izturis walked with one out in the third, and with two down Glaus homered to left field. Molina and Lopez hit back-to-back homers in the third. Rick Ankiel led off with a walk, and with one out Molina homered to left, followed by Lopez's shot to right. Wainwright doubled in Ryan Ludwick and Molina in the sixth for a 7-0 cushion, and Lopez scored on a Skip Schumaker double-play grounder later in the inning. Eckstein singled in Jeff Salazar in the bottom of the sixth, and Dunn drove in Conor Jackson in the eighth. Game Notes Cardinals outfielder Joe Mather will be out the remainder of the season due to a broken bone in his left wrist. Mather suffered the injury while trying to check his swing in the third inning of Monday's game.
