Recap: Chicago WSox vs. LA Angels

Sports Network | September 05, 2008

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Juan Uribe belted a pair of two-run homers to carry the Chicago White Sox to a 10-2 rout of the Angels in a battle of division leaders. Paul Konerko had three hits, including a solo homer, and Ken Griffey Jr. added a two-run single for the White Sox, who have won two straight after losing five of six. Their lead in the AL Central remained at 1 1/2 games over the Twins after Minnesota beat Detroit, 10-2, Friday night. Jermaine Dye had three hits and scored once for Chicago, and Mark Buehrle (12-11) threw six shutout innings. The lefty allowed three hits and struck out seven to win for the fourth time in his last five decisions. The victory came on the day the White Sox found out AL home run leader Carlos Quentin will be out possibly the remainder of the season due to a fractured right wrist. He will have surgery Monday. Despite the defeat, the Angels lowered their magic number to five for clinching the AL West championship. That's because Texas lost, 8-1, at home to Boston Friday night. Dustin Moseley (1-4) yielded six hits and four runs in 1 1/3 innings for Los Angeles. It was a great start for the White Sox, as they scored seven times over the first three innings. In the first, Orlando Cabrera singled, and one out later Dye walked. Konerko's infield hit loaded the bases with two outs before Griffey bounced a ball up the middle. Nick Swisher walked to begin the second and Uribe then homered to left field. Konerko started the third with a homer to left, and with two outs Swisher walked again. Uribe promptly made it 7-0 with another blast over the wall in left, logging his seventh career multi-homer game. Alexei Ramirez singled in two runs in the sixth for a 9-0 cushion before LA scored twice in the seventh on RBI hits from Chone Figgins and Garret Anderson. Chris Getz scored on a Brian Anderson force play in the eighth for Chicago's final tally. Game Notes Buehrle is 2-5 lifetime against the Angels...Quentin injured the wrist Monday in Cleveland. During the ninth inning, Quentin fouled off a pitch from Cliff Lee. In frustration, Quentin punched his bat with his right hand, causing the fracture...Scott Linebrink pitched the eighth inning for Chicago, his first appearance since July 22.
