Angels' K-Rod sets save record

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim closer Francisco Rodriguez set a new single-season record with his 58th save on Saturday.
On Thursday, Rodriguez earned his 57th save to equal the mark set by Bobby Thigpen in 1990 while a member of the Chicago White Sox. By holding a 5-2 lead in the ninth inning against the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, he jotted his name into the record books.
So far this season, Rodriguez has blown six saves. Thigpen blew a total of eight in his record-setting season.
Rodriguez could leave the prior mark in shambles as the American League West-champion Angels still have 14 games left against Seattle, Texas and Oakland.
On the season, the 26-year-old is 2-2 with a 2.38 earned-run average with 74 strikeouts and 32 walks in 70 appearances.
