Kenny Williams reponds to Frank

You talkin' to me?
Oh no you di-n't!
This is only going to get uglier.

[Kenny Williams]

"He's an idiot. He's selfish. That's why we don't miss him,"

...

"Jerry has done everything over the course of 16 years to protect that man, to make accommodations for him, concessions for him. He loaned him money, at times, when he needed money," Williams said.

"If he was any kind of a man, he would quit talking about things in the paper and return a phone call or come knock on someone's door. If I had the kind of problems evidently he had with me, I would go knock on his door," he said.

...

"We don't miss him, by the way," Williams said. "If you go out there and ask any one of my players or staff members, we don't miss him.

"We don't miss his attitude. We don't miss the whining. We don't miss it. Good riddance. See you later," he said.

There's also a couple of quotes from Ozzie and Konerko. -- If you ask me, I think the whole thing really took off when Konerko slighted Frank the other day.

Thanks, Willie.

Update [2006-2-26 18:4:49 by The Cheat]: The Chicago Tribune has many more quotes from Kenny's 'profanity laced tirade.' Something tells me we're not going to be seeing this interview pop up on MLB.com's Sounds of the White Sox.

ugh
This is all kind of getting school girlish.  Frank wants someone to call him.  He gets messages left on his machine, doesn't answer them.  Ugh.  It just all seems so foolish.

Either way, I hope the best for Frank.  With that said, I agree with the decision to go with Thome.  The risk is much lower since he has only had one year of injuries, he is younger and he is at spring training right now playing.

I agree SHAFTR
All this is really not needed. Were the World Champs, and were dealing with a guy who in NO WAY was coming back in 06, and rarley saw time in 05.

Kenny doesnt need to be popping off like this. Not needed.

yeah it is
Cheat you called it earlier. I was for leaving it be. But now I'm not. I say clear the air guys. Its starting to smell. I'm not going to bash Frank but I'm not going to defend him either.

btw
I bet KW takes some of that back. Frank is Frank. KW is KW. Ozzie is Ozzie. Worlds collide when that group of egos are involved.

He took back what he said
about Jon Rauch, but after KW drained whatever trade value he had left.

Frank...
needs to shut his mouth. Focus on the As and getting healthy.

Just when I want to like Kenny Williams
He goes and looks like an arrogant, insecure petty baby.

Umm... calling out Frank to not potshot in the media, in the media... Umm yea.

K Dub
Eh, it's not like K Dub is taking even close to a first shot hear.  Frank has disses the Sox 3 times publicly since the World Series and KW and the Sox have kept their mouths shut the whole time.  Well congrats Frank, you finally got a response.

K Dub doesn't come off as "arrogant" or "insecure" to me at all--just a bit foolish.  He lowered himself to close to Frank's level here, and he's rolling around in the mud with a pig that loves the mud.

I wish K Dub hadn't said anything but the real story here is Ozzie keeping his trap shut.  What's gotten into the Oz lately?  First an apology now a no comment?  Someone has to stop slipping that codeine in the Oz's morning coffee.

More opinions....
Athletics Nation has a thread on this topic. I placed the following response, which I didn't feel I needed to leave here because, well, I feel like you guys all probably see both sides of the story.
The interview that Frank gave to Phil Arvia was terribly one sided, and that's what prompted the response (more on that later). Anyone with knowledge of the situation can poke holes in almost every one of Frank's responses.

It seems that the genesis of his anger is that he received only one phone call, a voice-mail really, to inform him that he wouldn't be back with the Sox. -- Now you have to know Frank's relationship with the Sox to understand why even that solitary phone call was overkill. -- In 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, and so on, Frank would walk out the door on October 1st and not answer a single phone call, message, media inquiry, anything, until he showed up his usual week late to spring training. He would then complain about 'not wanting to be bothered.' The fact is, if the Sox had come to him every step of the way and told him his current situation with the team, he would have found something else to spout off about. Or he would have still spouted off about the way they handled it.

Frank somehow isn't able to grasp that this isn't about his ability to hit a baseball. It's about minimizing risk, and optimizing the Sox line-up not just for 2006, but for 2007 and beyond. It's really hard to think about multiple years down the line while including a guy who has his 3rd foot injury in 3 years, weighs as much as Frank does, and has only had 345 ABs in the last two years.

My favorite comment from Frank was about Carl Everett and how Everett wasn't brought in as insurance on Frank's foot, but that Kenny had brought in "too many good players."

Now onto Kenny's response. Should he have responded like he did? Absolutely not. But that's the way we handle things on the southside. We fire back with the truth and add a little venom.

Any player who wins a World Series, thanks in large part to the foresight of a GM to acquire 'too many guys', then complains about 'too many guys,' is quite obviously thinking of only himself. Everything Williams spoke was the truth. I just wish he could have done it without resorting to name calling.

All that being said, and with Frank due to fire back at the Sox in t-minus 24 hours, I'll still be at USCF along with 38K of my closest friends on May 22nd to give Frank a huge standing ovation in his return to the southside. That is if Frank is healthy enough to step into the batter's box.

I also thought Scott Reifert's quote was telling.
For the record, we never advise players or staff to say "no comment" because people generally assume you are guilty.  You always should comment in some manner or form.

great post
I love the big man, but he drives me crazy.  He's so insecure, despite his great accomplishments, that he embarasses himself by griping publicly all the time instead of keeping it in-house.  I know he's had rough patches here, but I bet he starts to get eaten alive by the Oakland faithful when he gets hurt again or is late in coming around from his foot injury.  He has trouble getting around a good fastball now and has to cheat on it.  An extra year of life on his body isn't going to help that.

Practice what you preach.....
I agree with everything that Kenny said. I know a number of people in the organization hierarchy and have heard this (and more) for years. However, as the top executive of a company, he needs to show restraint.  To me, a no comment would have been more dignified.

Personally, I thought Paulie's comments regarding Thome said it all.

like I said
I think it was time to respond. KW is the leader. Look at it this way - better for it to be him than members of the team. Now they can just stay clear.

This kid from AN
Responding to your post (it's currently the last post in the thread right now), said:

I have reported all three men for their CGVs. Granted, we're now looking for a DH, but at least the White Sox have no manager and no General Manager. Wait, that improved them? Codswallop.

Someone needs to be punched in the head...

I think you may be missing the humor in that post
Although I have no clue what CGV means... I think it's Community Guidelines Violations.

It's a joke, but one that we don't get.

ARGGGHH!!!
I'm siding with Thomas on this one. Kenny needs to shut up and stop talking about doing stupid things like:

Signing Konerko to a 60 million dollar contract
Talking about signing Crede long term

Focus, Kenny! Focus!

A's Nation
Unfortunetly, when Billy Beane is your GM, it sets the bar pretty damn high.  In light of that fact, I guess their critiscism of K Dub is more understandable.  Still, it's not like K Dub is some ignorant scrub, he's a good baseball mind and from what I can tell, a very intelligent person.  If he decided to comment, something must have set him off.  I don't condone his statements, and as the defacto leader of the Sox he should have kept his mouth shut.  However, as a person, as Troy Aikman likes to say 10 times a game--to a man--K Dub had to say something.

Nope
They don't work, and I can't figure out how to hack the "redirects" to save them on my computer. So no YouTube.

They should stick around on WGN's site for a while.

I don't blame Kenny at all.
It's just a shame that Frank managed to make himself the center of negative attention again at the start of spring training even without being on the team.
