Juan Uribe is en fuego!

When I left town a couple of weeks ago, Juan Uribe had a .198/.229/.308 line for the season. After today's 5 RBI performance, he stands at .241/.267/.426. He's slugging 120 points higher in the span of just two weeks, while averaging more than an RBI per game over that stretch. The man is on fire. And when Uribe is hot, he has the ability to carry a team.

He carried the White Sox to victory today; first with a 2-run single in the first inning, followed by an RBI double in the third that gave Jon Garland some much needed breathing room, and finally with a 2-run home run in the 8th that put the game safely out of reach. He also chipped in with some fine defense, specifically on the final play of the game, keeping the tying run from coming to the plate and Bobby Jenks safely in the bullpen.

Jon Garland had a tough first inning. I want to say that he pitched poorly, tentatively trying to paint the corners. He just didn't his finest control of his 2-seamer, but he kept throwing it. And that might be what saved him.

For the rest of the game, Garland worked his 2 seamer in on righties and used his change-up to put away lefties. He appeared to get more comfortable as the game wore on, and it showed in the 6th. He gave a couple of tough hits on good pitches to lead off the inning, but stuck by his best stuff (the sinker) and pounded the ball in on the hands of the next three batters to retire the side.

Scott Podsednik twice made Juan Pierre look like an All-Star thanks to some poor defensive decision making in the outfield. Pierre will be looking to slap the ball in Pods' direction all series if he gets to take an extra base every time.

Cubs lineup
Was this the first time all season they've gotten Lee - Walker - Nevin in the lineup at the same time?

I was missin' me some Pixie today.

of course it was
they traded for NEvin well after Lee went down with the injury.

the flaming bat does look good. Cubs are the worst team in baseball, Id love a sweep.

NSBB
Said that that is the optimal Cub lineup and that they were SHOCKED dusty could be so logical, even if does still have "4-3" batting leadoff.

Nice photoshop work.  Uribe might be my favorite player on the Sox, maybe because he forever teases with his hot streaks that make him look like Miguel Tejada with a better arm.

Anderson
He drew the collar and went 0-for-3 (with an IBB), but it's good to know that he's looking more and more competent at home plate.  He hit a rocket in one of his ABs that Aramas Ramirez made a nice scoop on, and he also flied out to fairly deep left field.

I know this line doesn't look like anything special, but I'm reasonably confident that BA will put up a .210/.315/.375 line by season's end.  That, of course, is if he's given the chance.  The only replacement who I've heard/seen mentioned that I'm in favor of acquiring is Mike Cameron, and I don't think I'd like the price (Fields).

A name crossed my mind the other night, I'll throw it out there and allow you guys to rip me or otherwise -- Andruw Jones.  Obviously, the price would probably include Anderson, Fields, and Broadway (at least).  Would Atlanta even ponder it?

Arguments against A-Jones
I should have said that I am, for the most part, realistic, and I know that this most likely isn't going to happen, because...
  • Atlanta probably wouldn't trade their best and most marketable player.
  • The Sox wouldn't want another big contracton the books (remembering that Mark Buehrle is going to get big $$$ in the near future).
  • The Sox really don't need more offense.  It wouldn't hurt, but really, the place where the Sox could use some improvement is on the mound.  Getting one more above average reliever would help our 'pen a ton.

WOW
I think Atlanta would be looking for pitching--McCarthy and Broadway would be a good start I'd think.  BMAC, Broadway and BA for Jones?

trading the future for jones?

B-Mac
I know that Kenny certainly isn't the one to let a prospect get in the way of helping the team NOW, but I think Brandon is one guy that is virtually untouchable.  As for me -- would I make that trade?  It's close, but I'd say no.  I still think Anderson will become a league average hitter playing superb CF defense, making him a pretty valuable player.  Add to that McCarthy, who has the chance to be a pretty solid #2, as well as Broadway (a #4-5, league average innings eater type), and I just think that's a bit too much.

I personally envision (like everyone else here) Brandon taking a spot in the rotation next year.  The Sox can't just keep buying players (as I'm sure you know) -- it would be huge to have McCarthy and Anderson filling the SP and CF roles respectively for the next couple years for less than a million bucks combined.

BMac
that's the problem with such a deal. we may upgrade our offense but we've just downgraded our pen big time. assuming politte sticks, montero replaces him. but if politte doesn't stick, who are we looking at? tracey? logan? doing any deal which involves BMac impacts negatively this year's team.

BA will be gone soon
...but then again, he might not.

Oh I agree Keith
I'm not necassarily advocating a move, just pondering.  Now, if Atlanta was like, we'll pay 50% of Andruw's (or similiar number) salary for the remainder of his contract, that might change things.

Joe Cowley:
Since hitting coach Greg Walker opened up Juan Uribe's stance a few weeks ago, the results have been stellar. With a 3-for-4 showing and five RBI in Friday's win, Uribe is hitting .375 with 19 RBI over his last 14 games. ''I worked a lot with Walk and changed a few things in my stance,'' Uribe said. ''It seems like it's really working.''
