For the last day, you and I have been on nearly
the same wavelength. This morning I told somebody that I feared this offseason would remind us all of 2001, where seemingly everybody on the pitching staff had surgery.

Boomer, Parque, Eldred, JB, Garland
Shudder.  Just looked at the 2001 SI spring training recap.  Eerie:  "The White Sox won't sneak up on anyone...the World Series is the only reasonable goal for a team coning off 95 wins the previous year."

AAIIIIEEEEEE!  Perhaps longdrive knows more than the rest of us....

Garland
Elder statesman of the staff.
Chew on that.

White Sox End Times?
This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again

Father? I want to kill you.
Mother?  I want to....AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAHHHHHHHH.

(Translated - I want to see a Sox starter pitch into the 8th 2 games in a row.)

Clarification
The Jim Morrison referenced is The Lizard King, not the Sox 1979-1981 infielder.

LOL!
Though perhaps he was hung like a python, too.  Have to ask Ralph Garr or someone like that.

Vintage Konerko
Why such a higher percentage of GIDP for Paulie this year?

by Toonderstrook on Aug 22, 2006 6:20 PM CDT   0 recs

It's nice of Mark
To fall apart in the 1st inning. It saves me a lot of time I can devote to drinking instead of watching the game...

Pitchers should be fined for walking in a run
Of course, Hawk and DJ are in near-meltdown mode complaining about the umpiring.
AIM: SouthSideCheat

by The Cheat on Aug 22, 2006 6:26 PM CDT   0 recs

the way I see it
they have a point. Both pitches to Thome coulda been strikes, whereas that inside pitch to Paulie was in the same location as Jim's yet it was called a strike. Mark is getting the same treatment. Sure he's getting ducksnorted to death, but the ump hasn't helped.

I hope the Twins send
Us and Boston a thank you for sucking card.  They will coast into the playoffs with their league leading pitcher injured.

by Bull Pain on Aug 22, 2006 6:28 PM CDT   0 recs

Cleven
was hitting 224/307/350 in 366 AB in AA before getting called up.  He sucks.

by Bull Pain on Aug 22, 2006 6:29 PM CDT   0 recs

I'm sick of Kenny Rogers, too
I really hope the Sox knock the crap out of him today.

First inning, Ozuna hit it hard, Konerko hit it hard, yet both went for outs.  Meanwhile, Detroit gets little Neifi Perez BS hits.

by CWSKeith on Aug 22, 2006 6:32 PM CDT   0 recs

I'm sure
Rogers will get torched in the playoffs by the Yankees.

by Bull Pain on Aug 22, 2006 6:34 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

How appropriate
Dye gets a 3-1 count, and ends up grounding out weakly.  Seemingly has happened all too often since we smoked Mark Redman.

I love
feeling like the game is over in the first inning.

Bye-bye Ozzie...tell me this lights a fire under our team!

Anyone bored? Wanna do some research?
What's the Sox record in games where Ozzie's been tossed? How about the games immediately following his ejections?

Wow
We are in a giving mood.  I would love to be able to blame the umps, but if Konerko's AB is the only chance we give ourselves to score, then I guess that's our problem.

by GhostOfRooney on Aug 22, 2006 6:46 PM CDT   0 recs

what happened?
what's going on?  What'd he do?!?!

Seriously, how many rallies in the past few games have come with 2 outs and 2 strikes?  It seems like all of them!

Last 54 innnings, 50 earned runs.  He only allowed 82 earned runs all of last season in 235+ innings.

Funny that we're excited for the Chicken Hawker
to throw a bunch of pitches to just accelerate the impending doom of Zumaya, Rodney, and Jones.

by Toonderstrook on Aug 22, 2006 7:21 PM CDT   0 recs

Anderson
Can't hit a low and away offspeed pitch to save his life.  What's worse, he loves to swing at them.  The Tigers seem to know this.

What ever happened to Mr. Incredible?
Is Jim Thome hurt?  He's been striking alot more this month than any other month, and I believe he has less than 3 homeruns.

by Los Soxos on Aug 22, 2006 7:26 PM CDT   0 recs

Markakis!
3 plate appearances, 3 HR for Baltimore

5-1 Orioles!

Can we possibly win the wildcard with 80 wins?  That's my hope for right now, not that I think we'll actually reach 80 wins.

let the scoring begin!

by jakester on Aug 22, 2006 7:28 PM CDT   0 recs

Well
Buehrle only gave him three dozen chances to eventually prod that home run into fair territory.

A real sportsman, that Mark.

by Robbie on Aug 22, 2006 7:30 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes
You would think that Buehrle would adjust, but it was the batter that did all the adjusting, slowly straightening out his hit.

Sad
6th time in the last 8 games that a Sox pitcher has allowed more than 4 earned runs. Opposing pitchers have allowed 3 or less in 7 of those games.

We haven't scored more than 1 earned against a starter since the loss to Boof Bonser.
