For the last day, you and I have been on nearly
the same wavelength. This morning I told somebody that I feared this offseason would remind us all of 2001, where seemingly everybody on the pitching staff had surgery.

Boomer, Parque, Eldred, JB, Garland
Shudder.  Just looked at the 2001 SI spring training recap.  Eerie:  "The White Sox won't sneak up on anyone...the World Series is the only reasonable goal for a team coning off 95 wins the previous year."

AAIIIIEEEEEE!  Perhaps longdrive knows more than the rest of us....

White Sox End Times?
This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again

The Jim Morrison referenced is The Lizard King, not the Sox 1979-1981 infielder.

Sad
6th time in the last 8 games that a Sox pitcher has allowed more than 4 earned runs. Opposing pitchers have allowed 3 or less in 7 of those games.

We haven't scored more than 1 earned against a starter since the loss to Boof Bonser.

I don't care that we're facing the best pitchers in the world this week.  That's when it becomes about the pitching duel.  That's when you figure out a way to grind home that first run.

Beginning of the game stats since the ASB.

  1.  Bullpen still very rested!
  2.  No errors 2 nights in a row!
  3.  Loat by 6 last night - can't do worse than 4 tonight - margin of defeat improving!
  4.  Minny loses!  We are still in the playoffs if the world ends today?  (And to read the posts tonight, it just might.)
  5.  Only 2 walks given up by Sox pitching!
  6.  Game over soon - begin getting hammered!
  7.  1st place totally out of reach - less pressure/uncertainty re: goals (try and win this week being the first).

Yes. Nice job. However, what will the playoff
schedule be if WW III starts in the Middle East?  Does league play stop and we make it as a Wild Card; or are the playoffs permanently cancelled?

In all seriousness, the Iran/Syria/Lebanon/Israel war is of infinite more import than the Sox, but it would be nice to have the Sox back to their winning ways so that I don't have to fret over this crazy Hezbollah issue that the U.S. has been ignoring and will have to soon address.

by southsidefan on Aug 22, 2006 8:42 PM CDT up reply actions

There won't be a World War III any time soon.
Not in the Middle East.  It's not strategically important enough for us to commit to total warfare.  If Iran gets involved, there will be a brief air war.  The repercussions may be bad enough to force a withdrawal from Iraq, but I can't see the US escalating under any circumstances, and certainly not to the point where the baseball season is altered.

The only war that would cause the United States to fully commit would be a ground war with China.  The odds of this happening are nil.  Don't worry.
