Tigers playing the long ball tonight.

What's worse?
Bludgeoned by the long ball or nibbled to death by piranhas?  It's all the same, you're dead either way.

by AJ guy on Sep 18, 2006 8:03 PM CDT reply actions

Buehrle
has allowed 24 runs in the first inning over his last 15 starts.  He's allowed first inning runs in 7 straight starts.

by Bull Pain on Sep 18, 2006 8:07 PM CDT reply actions

Jesus, we've got bad mojo.
We've now been repeatedly killed by Frank Thomas, Magglio Ordonez, and Esteban Loaiza.  Great.  So that only leaves Carl Everett and Carlos Lee to beat us around, and we'll have run through the whole order.

by Dongfang Hong on Sep 18, 2006 8:57 PM CDT reply actions

Let's face reality
Face it- Sox are sub .500 team since the all-star break. They are simply mediocre and by no means playoff material. I'm trying to convince myself of this so that I can somehow avoid hoping that they'll pull this game out, win every game for the rest of the year, etc.

by egardne on Sep 18, 2006 9:02 PM CDT reply actions

Prophetic words Cheat. Everything that needs
to be said about this team's weaknesses and mistakes has already been said ad nauseum.  What a pathetic September.  I just want the season to end so I can enjoy talking about the White Sox again.

Another Low Value HR from Thome
These solo shot low value HRs from Thome are pathetic. Seems to never deliver with guys on base when your down.

by waitonhim on Sep 18, 2006 9:32 PM CDT reply actions

Just for kicks
Buehrle's post-All Star Break BA against is .335, good enough to be 3rd in the AL behind Mauer and Jeter.

by Bull Pain on Sep 18, 2006 9:34 PM CDT reply actions

Why Can't We Hit Rogers?
Can anyone explain to me the differences between what Buehrle throws and what Rogers throws? They both strike me as BP pitchers but we make Rogers look like Sandy Koufax.

lol
well, mack certainly put the capper on this game.

by larry on Sep 18, 2006 9:45 PM CDT reply actions

Fitting ending
Inge's homer of McCarthy in the 9th somehow seems to be a fitting end to a disappointing season. Oh wait, Mackowiak just made an error in center- even more appropriate.

by egardne on Sep 18, 2006 9:45 PM CDT reply actions

Cheat's got nothin' to say
And tonight, neither do the Sox.

Except, that is, for Mack, who just wanted to remind us why we hated him.

by Dongfang Hong on Sep 18, 2006 9:53 PM CDT reply actions

No...
We've got nothing against Mack.  We hate his cf, but he hates his cf at least as much as we do, so we're cool.

That's a positive.
Go Fields!
Just.Win.

by hawksview on Sep 18, 2006 9:54 PM CDT reply actions

So let me get this straight...
We can't win a damn thing with Frank Thomas and Magglio Ordonez on the team, but they can beat us when they're on other teams? Something isn't right about that.

by Stealfirstbase on Sep 18, 2006 10:43 PM CDT reply actions

say what?
This is a team game.  It takes a 25 man squad with a deep overall pitching staff and defensive assets out of the C, SS, CF, and 3B slots.  If your team is built properly, guys like Frank and Magglio (in their respective primes) are MAJOR assets.  There should be no confusion about this.

Hawk
Tonight, during the 5 minutes or so of the game that I could tolerate without getting dry heaves, D.J. said some jibber-jabber about how it's the "baseball gods" messing with the Sox.

Hawk corrected him by saying, "No, it's a thing called killer instinct."

That's the exact moment Thome got his meaningless HR. Shades of what once was, I guess.

At this point, I think
that putting in the kids is the best shot to improve for next year AND to do something this year.  The kids might actually play well enough to win some games.
Just.Win.

Speaking of "The Kids can Play"
Does anyone have a video of Field's homerun. I'd like to see it, and MLB.com saw fit not to include it in the game highlights.

by Stealfirstbase on Sep 19, 2006 1:20 AM CDT reply actions

No song?
Someone the other day said that the problem was that we didn't have a song for this year.

I think the problem was no Nancy to send off opposing pitchers.  I miss Nancy!

"Polish--mustard and onions." "Any pop?"

by DepotMan on Sep 19, 2006 10:41 AM CDT reply actions

At this point
I believe any funeral dirge would be appropriate.

Or, re-work the Journey song:

"I stopped...believin',
The Sox have blown the season!
Bummed out...people

I feel...like heavin'
Platooning is the reason
Pissed off...people...Aaaaaaaaah!"

by tailgater on Sep 19, 2006 11:58 AM CDT up reply actions

BA
Beeeelieve it or not,
he's in center field
Just as long as the pitcher's a righteee!
He's such a nice guy
And punched that guy's gut
What can I say?
Believe it or not, it's BA!
"Polish--mustard and onions." "Any pop?"

During the long cold off season
I'd like to propose starting a letter-writing campaign to ABC to get Bobby Jenks on "Dancing with the Stars." We'll need something to laugh at to pull us through the winter.

or he can take the part of Curly...
...in the remake of the Three Stooges meet the Big Blurt (played by Heinie Bird)

Moe...Larry...the Cheese !!

by DickdaStick on Sep 19, 2006 12:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Great concept
I think Ed Farmer would have the personality to portray Moe and BA has the hair to portray Larry.

Or, for laughs, Ozzie could portray Moe...

"Ho-kay youse guys, get bahk to werk, or hi weel slap yew so hard dat you might actually get a heet."

Bobby (Curly): "Sointenly! Nyuck, nyuck."
