White Sox Quotes of the Day: Greg Walker, Ken Williams

Walker on adjusting the mechanics in BA's batting swing:

[Joe Cowley]

The first change was having Anderson take the bat away from his shoulder so that he could get to the inside part of the plate quicker.

Part II was a bit more difficult because it involved changing the way he stood at the plate.

"His lower half was beating him consistently. He was out on his toes, he had his body in a bad position. Now he's more in a balanced situation. It has to be something he can use in a 3-2, man-on-second-and-two-outs situation against a reliever. We're in the baby steps of it right now, but I'm encouraged. We still have a long way to go."

*****
Kenny on Josh Fields' future:

[Joe Cowley]

"Is Josh Fields our future third baseman? It's a fair question for everyone to ask because of the position he plays and because Joe Crede is coming up on free agency. I'll answer it in this fashion: It's obvious we have to, no matter what the position is, prepare in the event of injury, poor performance and loss of the player, however that occurs. That is the natural assumption, that [Fields is] next. That natural assumption doesn't factor in how high regard I hold Joe Crede. Hopefully it happens where we can work out something to keep Joe Crede here longer. If that happens, Josh is a good enough athlete where he can play a number of positions. If it happens that Joe is no longer here, we have a natural step-in."

Damn it, I had no idea
steroids were so plentiful in my backyard.  (Screw the Guillen quotes - the story on that blog is the Orlando steroids raid.)  Looks like Sarge, Jr. might be in a bit of hot water.  And what does that do to his nice and juicy contract?

BWAHAHAHAHA!

sarge jr. on the juice?
i'm shocked, shocked to find that cheating was going on there.

I also am shocked - shocked! -
to find a business that grew from $500K in sales in 2002 to $36MM last year was involved in anything illicit.

That's growth of which any crack dealer would be proud.

You're
being facetious, aren't you? I told a friend back in June I suspected he was...he had lost the baby fat and playing much too well....and, putting those together....

casablanca may be a bit too old for some here, i guess.

I love it...
I've never seen a site that is SO incredibly slanted.  I mean "Hope the men in blue had fun playing cops while more kids became crack addicts today."  That's why it's okay for me to shoplift also...better than slingin' rocks.  Oh, and rape is okay because hey...it's better than murder.  Crime is only crime when there is nothing worse!

Anyone want to take any guesses at how insanely all over the story Rev would be if this was someone in their division?  Or god forbid Pierzynski "Steroids made him run to first in the playoffs!  Steroids stole our win!  STEROIDS KILLED MY GRANDPA!!!"

By the way...I'm taking a wait and see approach with that whole story.

CF
Ozuna in CF? Yet another sign that the apocalypse is upon us? What's next, Kevin Hickey coming in to face Big Papi with the sacks packed?

I'd prefer you not mention
"packed sack" and "Hickey" in the same sentence again, sir.  This is a family blog.

casablanca
I believe the line after the cheating comment was when they brought the prefect his winnings.

player value
I would like to think that everyone has some value,i remember the days of luis alvarado and nyls nyman.

I appreciate the accuracy
of the placement of the "Casablanca" quote - am yet unsure about the Hindu-ish "all life has value" thing.  My days of Gestalt have been over for almost 20 years and have been repalced by a more Eliisonian bent - "That is stupid behavior!  Bend your knees as you field that ball!  Podsednik, that was a stupid at bat!"  You know, Rational Emotive.

;)

PS Does the 1960 relate to a birth year, or did you read Dave Condon's book about the Go Go Sox of '59 that year and become a fan?

1960
first year i went to a game. my comment about player value had to do with the bad sox teams of the past. kind of like the royals now.everyones cast-offs had some place to play.like wayne nordhagen or bob molinaro.

My favorite was
Walt "No Neck" Williams.  Just your recitation of the two names listed makes me smile.

God, we were horseshit for a LONG time...

cast-offs
we had ozuna politte widger and hermanson as cast-offs and they helped win the series. i think perez or spivey could make this team if pods is not ready. real good chance if anderson is sent down and ozuna is semi regular outfielder for a while. spivey may offer more flexibility if there is any gas left in the tank.
