Today's White Sox Quote of the Day comes from Jon Garland. Garland says he feels "a knot" in his shoulder, similar to the one he felt last year at Spring Training:

[Dave van Dyck]

"I kind of have that same feeling that I did toward the end of spring last year--it feels tight," he said. Last year, somehow, it worked its way out and, hopefully, it works its way out this year. It doesn't hurt because I can go out and throw the ball and it doesn't hurt. It just feels tight. I think it's just a knot deep in there. It's holding me back. But I'll work through it and continue on with my business. I'll be right there."

Luis Terrero hit in the left knee by a foul tip...
and was taken out of the game.  Anyone else happy about this?

Erstad is tearing it up...
He is now 2 for 2.  He led off the game with a single and now he just hit a 2-run double.  Both hits were off of almost-Sox player Jason Hirsh.

The full quote...
from The Philadelphia Inquirer:
More Rowand rumors

Reports out of Chicago say the Phillies are talking again about a deal that would send Aaron Rowand back to the White Sox for relief help. A Sox scout has been at recent Phillies games, including yesterday's - although Rowand did not play.

Rowand came to the Phils as part of the November 2005 Jim Thome deal, and for months the Sox have expressed an interest in bringing him back. They missed his play in center field and his intangibles last year.

"It's the same thing over and over," Rowand said. "I tend not to worry about it and just go play. Until I hear otherwise, I expect to be here. It's flattering to be wanted, and if nothing happens, it's flattering the Phillies want to keep me."

By the way...
Mark "The Messiah" Prior is done, finished, kapoot.

He is topping off at 87-88 MPH with his fastball and he can't get his curveball over the plate to save his life.  And he just got rocked by some Royals scrubs.

Prior's Future
Neyer actually says he would be shocked if he won 50 more games in his career. WTF. Man how the mighty have fallen.

Stupid Spring Training

I'm really not putting much stock in our pitchers' performances this spring, but at some point I hope Buehrle and Vazquez realize that at no time is it acceptable to have an ERA higher than their salary in millions.

If religion is the opiate of the masses, then I reckon I'm an addict.

Injury
I'm told good pitchers never go bad unless they are injured or really old. So he's hurt. What else could it be?

Age...
...is more of an individual thing.  It's not just years, everyone ages differently.  Being a boxing fan I use the figher analogy a lot.  Sometimes you watch a guy get old in the middle of a fight.  Sometimes pitchers get old in the middle of a season.  Once you "go old" you don't come back.

So it could be that he's just done being the pitcher he was.  Or he might be hurt like you said.

Eduardo Perez better make the roster...
he has a 2-run homer and a single today.  It looks like Ozzie will only use him at 1B or DH though.

I'm starting to think that Boone Logan...
is hours from being traded to the Phillies, along with Sean Tracey, for Aaron Rowand.  Boone pitched 2.1 innings today and has yet to give up a run this ST.  It's almost like the Phillies have scouts at the game today and wanted to get an extended look at Logan before they swing a deal so Ozzie obliged.

Boone Logan's line versus the A's today...
2.1 IP  |  2 H  |  1 BB  |  1 K

He still has a 0.00 ERA so far this Spring Training.

I really hope not
That would piss me off.  Use Phillips or Tracey.

Also, Rowand has not played in the last two Phillies games.  Coincidence or not?  If something is going down it seems like it is going to happen really soon.

by RME JICO on Mar 10, 2007 7:14 PM CST up reply actions

The Phillies probably aren't playing Rowand...
because they don't want his average dropping anymore than what it currently is this spring -- .143.

by SSH2005 on Mar 10, 2007 8:12 PM CST up reply actions

Also, the Phillies are giving Shane Victorino...
a ton of AB's this spring and he is tearing it up.  If they can get some decent relievers for Rowand, I have no doubt that they will deal him and go with an outfield of Burrell, Victorino, and Werth.

Fifth starter job down to Floyd or Danks...
Along with Gavin Floyd, John Danks is a frontrunner for the fifth spot in the White Sox rotation, manager Ozzie Guillen said Saturday.
"Those are the two main guys to be there, plus [Charlie] Haeger," Guillen said. "But the way those two guys throw now, it's going to be hard for us to make the decision." Floyd should still be considered the favorite, but it's clear Danks is making a strong impression this spring.

Source:  WhiteSox.mlb.com

The White Sox's two leading candidates for the fifth starter job is likely down to Gavin Floyd and John Danks, and both are scheduled to pitch on Tuesday against Texas.
Floyd will get the starting nod and both pitchers will try to go three to four innings. After an organizational meeting, pitching coach Don Cooper emphasized the No. 5 spot i the rotation is "still up for grabs." If Danks wins the job, Floyd can still grab a middle-relief spot on the 25-man roster.

Haeger is still in the mix but it looks like it will be either Floyd or Danks.
