Remember when people mocked him?  He sure has turned out to be a pretty great GM.
Go Badgers!

I know
I was one of them.

But a championship after an 88-year drought (two world wars, the 60's all the way through the crazy man we have now) will alter the calculus.

I like to compare Williams' trajectory with Epstein's.  Williams has clawed his way from ridicule to grudging respect, while Epstein has gone fom walking on water to an uneasy silence.  Somehow, despite the dispatching of successive curses, they both still have something to prove.

Now, Williams and Epstein have both staked out some risky ground.  Epstein just spilled $103 million on the alleged purveyor of a gyroball, while Kenny traded Chris Young, Freddy Garcia, Brandon McCarthy & Aaron Rowand and let Frank Thomas walk away.

Billy Beane has become legendary winning these bets.  Williams and Epstein want to be legendary.

We shall see.

This year, my money is on Epstein
The Red Sox would be my pick to win it all. Their starting staff is going to be great, I think Beckett will have a big rebound year and Daisuke will be well worth the money. Add in the OBP from Lugo, Drew in front of Ramirez and Ortiz and I think they are the best team in baseball.

It's very annoying.

BTW, in comparing Epstein and Williams, let's keep in mind that Epstein has had (and still has) a much larger budget to work with.
