From last thread:
I'm optimistic that we avoid the sweep today.  The sun is shining, temperature's rising, flowers are blooming... everything's coming up roses!
It should be called Bill Veeck Park!

And we're only 4 back in the loss column.
Hey, we need the mindset that we were 7 under 2 weeks ago, and we're on a tear.

Works for me on the golf course when I hit a shitty drive. I make believe it's a par 5 and I'm going for the green in 2. However, I am relatively simpleminded. But then again, this team doesn't seem to be made up of a bunch of rocket scientists. Dr. Erstad?

The game of baseball (really substitute any sport here) is played on a 2 1/2" by 2 1/2" square between your ears.

by ballyb on May 30, 2007 11:51 AM CDT up reply actions

Yep. I'm all for looking
at the positives at the 1/3 point.  You know, like if you're in a car accident and spend 6 months in a coma and with collapsed lungs, broken collar bone, and a metal plate in your head; it could've been worse!  Or put more succinctly:

Somewhere in this pile of crap there MUST be a pony!

Now on to sweep avoidance!
(Btw, at my age the square is down to 2 1/4 x 2 1/4.)

It should be called Bill Veeck Park!

by Chiburb on May 30, 2007 11:57 AM CDT up reply actions

As a group
we need to focus the beta waves on positives for this team.

Focus on the 5/21 & 5/22 Oakland games where we had 8 runs/14 hits and 10 runs/13 hits respectively.

FOCUS HARD.

Torri this series
Has probably contribued to 12 runs on offense, while taking away another 8 from us on defense.

That's a 20 run differential, by my calculations, meaning Torii Hunter has single-handedly beaten the White Sox this series.

HR Hitting Contest Anyone?
Do the Sox players study the other team's relievers?  It seems to me that every Sox hitter swing for the fences as soon as the other team's relievers come in.  There is no plan of attack or taking of pitches.  69 pitches in 6 innings for the Twins relievers.

by squeegeeman on May 30, 2007 3:15 PM CDT reply actions

on that subject....
when the offense started its currently-going skid, we started calling for greg walker's head on a pike. now that the bullpen has proven itself mostly bunk, when do we get to call for st. coop's?

by thatshortkid on May 30, 2007 3:18 PM CDT up reply actions

not quite sure it's the same
coop has a track record of success; walker does not. the hitting slump began last year; the current "pitching slump" began about three weeks ago. other than mac and jenks (maybe even thornton), we've got a bullpen full of rookies.

There
is an unmistakable deficiency mentally and emotionally with this team vs. the Twins...that ineptitude...and, yes, it IS a skill...permeates this team , spreading and growing like a fungus...someone has to make a stand, prefferably someone like Konerko, Crede or Thome...of course, there is a WHOLE LOT more wrong with this team, but that particular phenomenon has NOT been acknowledged....and so it is never addressed or fixed....know how you handle this sort of thing? You acknowlege it, immediately relieving pressure in the hope of enhancing performance...I mean A PUBLIC acknowledgement from someone that matters (not, Kenny, but someone in uniform...even Ozzie...this sort of thing can be tended to much easier than tyring to fix their well-documented personnel problems.

It's hard to top that series in terms
of absolutely pathetic showings.  Get blown out twice, then blow a 5 run lead and lose by walking in a runner in the bottom of the ninth.

That performance should embarrass every single member of this team.  Garland for blowing a lead the offense gave him, the bullpen for continuing to breathe when they clearly should have lost that priviledge a long time ago, the offense for mailing it in for 6 innings against the MN bullpen, and Ozzie for being the typical dumbshit that he is.
