robert valido
there's a guy who really has lost the plot. we can put part of the blame on him for our lack of middle infield prospects. he's the main reason we didn't draft a SS recently and, now that he sucks, we've got nothing in the cupboard.

tell me Gio was pulled tonight because of a 48 minute rain delay and not some injury!

[barons.com]
In a scoreless game with the Barons at the plate in the 3rd inning, rain moved through the region, forcing the tarp onto the field at Smokies Park. Following a 49-minute rain delay both Gio Gonzalez and Mark Holliman had waited too long to re-take the mound for their respective teams, turning the game into a bullpen battle.

Third Game
With BA being a no show, any news on that?

by omnipotent grab on Jun 5, 2007 12:09 AM CDT up reply actions

yes
[Mark Gonzales]
Williams reported that outfielder Ryan Sweeney, batting .265 with three homers and 12 RBIs for Charlotte, is coping with a turf toe injury ... Brian Anderson has been bothered by a sore shoulder. Anderson, who was optioned April 29, is batting .271 with three homers and 13 RBIs for the Knights. ... Outfielder Scott Podsednik underwent an MRI on his right groin, but the results weren't disclosed. Podsednik, out since April 17, is expected to start a minor-league rehabilitation assignment this week.

what's your take on john shelby? gonna be 22 in asugust, he has a high XBH% and a low K%, and a good SB%

by The Wizard on Jun 5, 2007 11:07 PM CDT reply actions

Probably my favorite pick from last year
He was a "tools" guy who didn't appear to make enough contact at Kentucky to make much of an impact in the pros. That sort of held true in his first glimpse of pro ball in the Rookie Leagues, but he's really cut down on the strikeout rate, and looks to be a nice prospect. I'd rank him right around 10 in the Sox system right now give or take a couple spots.

I really like all the doubles right now, because he was billed as a guy who could grow some power and Kanny has a bit of a big ballpark.

I don't remember what his defense was like, but I suspect that it was challenged because he was often described as raw.

I hope BA's shoulder is better
He hit a double yesterday and today too. In his second at bat he was down in the count but manage to stay alive, and I think it was a ground rule double. Games not over yet, watching on gameday.

Promotions
It looks like it's time for promotions. AS games played, younger guys have had enough AB that you're less concerned about small sample size, fringe guys have revealed whether they're worth keeping or not (heath phillips-not!). Here's what I'd like to see:

Heath Phillips cut, Gio or Egbert promoted, Schnurstein to AA, Carter to A+, Oneli perez to AAA. Any other promotion suggestions?

by bhoov on Jun 21, 2007 1:39 PM CDT reply actions

Could Carter skip High A?
Would that be asking too much?  I really don't know much about it, but it seems like he could be fast tracked, the way he's hitting.

by colintj on Jun 27, 2007 5:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Do u think they'll keep Phillips since
one of the pitchers will be promoted once one of our starters are traded.

Terrific outing...
by Gavin Floyd today.  8 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 6 H, 2BB, 8 K.

He's got his ERA down to 3.22.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Jun 21, 2007 1:56 PM CDT reply actions

He couldn't get out #27
His line was 8.2IP 0R 4H 1BB 7K. But he gave up two "soft liners" which sounds like bloop hits to me. Then struck out terry tiffee, but he made it to first on what was ruled a wild pitch. Then he walked the next batter on 5 pitches.

It was an even better outing than the line indicated.

And that's 4 starts in a row that make him look like a actual prospect. His June line is great 30.2 IP, 21H, 1HR, 7BB, 29K. If Danks has another bad outing, I wouldn't be opposed to swapping them.

but he's up to .400 now in the White Sox organization. 5 K to 0 BB though, and we'll have to see what his defense is like. (Not looking forward to it)

Kevin Goldstein on Micah Schnurstein
[bp]
rswhitt (d.c.): Your thoughts on two largely unheralded players having solid seasons so far, Jared Goedert of the Indians and Micah Schnurstein of the White Sox. Is either one looking like a future major league regular?

Kevin Goldstein: I'd rank Goedert higher than Schnurstein, though I wouldn't go over the top on either. Goedert is a college guy mashing on young pitchers in a very friendly hitting park, and he's done very little since moving up to High A. Schnurstein is an organizational bat having a big year.
