Oh Fields playing in left
And Andy in the infield!! Lets see how Fields performs out there.

but who cares at this point?

Ozzie does
bad defense in left field costs 2 bases you know.

too bad ozzie doesn't run the team, huh
apparently, at least. this move smells like it came from the front office.

Anybody watch Fields there?
He broke at least four steps backwards before finally coming in.  Me thinks there's going to be a bit of a learning curve in left for Josh.  I fear his first 'at 'em' liner.

Yeah
I bet he breaks back on everything for a while, not wanting to let a ball get over his head...

Well, even Rowand had some troubles...
judging hard liners hit right at him.  Of course, Fields is going to be much more fun (scary) to watch.

You I think so
I hope Vazquez appreciates that run.

by Shoeless In SC on Aug 26, 2007 3:20 PM CDT reply actions

Even if the Sox won out...
They'd only be around 87 wins. How embarrasing. This team will be lucky to win 70 games.

If they go .500 (16-16) they finish 72-89 or so. I see them going 10-22 and finishing with around 66 wins.

Now -that's- bad.

as far as i'm concerned
unless you're a team on the upswing, who cares where you finish if you don't make the playoffs? .500 just gets you a crappier draft pick. go for the gusto. everyone knows the top 5 (or so) is where the legit, much more likely to can't miss talent is. everything else doesn't help. embrace our badness. it's a good thing.

by larry on Aug 26, 2007 4:16 PM CDT up reply actions

It doesn't matter where you finish,
but contrary to Reinsdorf's and Ozzie's and William's statements THIS TEAM HAS QUIT . And it's a FUCKING EMBARRASSMENT. The entire organization should be ashamed. VERY FEW MAJOR LEAGUERS and a BARREN minor league system. It's pathetic.

by ballyb on Aug 26, 2007 4:20 PM CDT up reply actions

quit?
i'm not sure about that. this is the best team in baseball against one of the worst. as you point out, there's little talent out there. the result isn't particularly surprising. i'm sure one could make a case that players aren't as focused or whatever considering the season is over. i don't consider that an embarassment - sounds pretty normal to me - but to each his own.
Jerry Owens: he's a g*ddamn lead off hitter

by larry on Aug 26, 2007 4:45 PM CDT up reply actions

NORMAL to lose a 4 game series 45 - 7?
A month ago the Royals (one of the worst teams in baseball) took 2 of 3 from "best team in baseball."

Come on, Larry. Something is seriously wrong with this team / organization and has been for 13 months.

And they don't do anything about it. Throw the fans a bone, a token change. SHOW us you're concerned. At least 2 contending teams with much better offensive stats than us replaced their hitting coaches this year. We've been DEAD LAST in most offensive categories all year and all we hear is Greg Walker is a GREAT coach.

Their isn't one fucking player on this team now that Iguchi is gone that can lay down a decent bunt.

We have several "outfielders who can't throw the ball from the warning track on the fly to the skin part of the infield. And to make matters worse, the don't hustle to keep a runner from advancing a base.

It's VERY EMBARRASSING to me, but to each his own.

by ballyb on Aug 26, 2007 5:10 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah
they suck. they're embarassing. is this anything new? at some point people need to get over and focus on next season. i could not care less how this team plays now. it doesn't matter outside of the young guys just getting playing time.

Contreras worth nothing.
If debacle continues:

Garland worth little and less every start.

Vazquez will soon be worth close to one of the above.

Those offseason trade(s) are yielding less every game.

by ballyb on Aug 26, 2007 9:23 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree wholeheartedly
I want us to lose out. I hope we have the absolute worst record in the past 100 years of the franchise. Maybe then we can exact some real change... but I was just reflecting upon how bad the team is, and how potentially bad our record can get. It is kinda embarrassing to me, from the sense that the team just won a WS two years ago and won 90 games last year. To fall this hard this fast... is kinda remarkable. It actually should be embraced now. Screw embarrassment. Open your arms to the suck. Let it flow through your veins, everyone.

White Sox have a chance at history tomorrow
No team in the last 50 years (could be longer, I can't easily search before then) has allowed 10+ runs in 5 consecutive games.

After today, the White Sox are the only team in the last 50 years to allow 10+ runs in 4 consecutive games twice. 9 teams have done it once.

Since 2001, Atlanta is the only has scored 10+ runs in 4 games in a row. And they did it twice, one 4 game streak this year, and a 5 game streak last year. Boston now joins them.

by ChicagoPete on Aug 26, 2007 4:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Just got home from the game.
Left after the after we batted in the 6th. WORE A BROWN PAPER BAG OVER MY HEAD from the 3rd til I left. Walked around the lower concourse and watched most of the last 3 innings from the outfield. Some snickering, not much support. It was 30%+% Red Sox fans.

I don't mind losing, but the underperformance of this team with seemingly no accountability is shocking. I've had it.

by ballyb on Aug 26, 2007 4:16 PM CDT reply actions

It is shocking
to go from world series champs to one of the worst teams in baseball in two years. Seems like somebody significant in management has got to go.
After 2005 I had no illusions about the Sox creating a dynasty (like the Bulls of the 90s) but I was hoping they'd at least contend for the division title for the following 5 years or so. The 85 Bears were big disappointments in not winning another Super Bowl, but at least they had good regular seasons for several years after. But to hit rock bottom after two years. . .wow.

saw several of you on TV
first time since 1996 that a team has given up 10+ runs in all the games in a four game series.

Was hoping to see a fly ball to Fields - I must have missed it in the 9th - apparently so did Fields!

You know what started the debacle yesterday?
A great, well placed BUNT. By Bobby Kielty. When was the last time you saw a great, well placed bunt from the Good Guys?

Really bad fundamentals. That's the organization's responsibility.

Opposite field hitting.

Outfield hustling to offset "pus arms" (a 60's term) to keep baserunners from advancing.

Holding baserunners better.

Fundamentals were a key reason we won in '05. Nobody is RESPONSIBLE. Guys come up from the minors with the same weaknesses.

It's just one big, happy family.

by ballyb on Aug 27, 2007 6:38 AM CDT reply actions

Don't worry
The manager is doing an "A" job, the players are happy to play for him. Just a few postions to correct an this team will be in the hunt again.

Right - and I'm happy to be paying what I am to see this crap and watch these decisions since the WS.
