Ozzie Guillen wishes he could do something

Ozzie's latest:

"Seeing this, day in and day out, and not being able to do anything about it, hurts."
*****
In other news and Sox blogs,

And something I missed on yesterday's Ozzie rant yesterday, inside.

Star-divide

Ozzie gives a pat to himself:

"I keep giving people a chance to succeed, a pat on the back. I wish I played for a manager like that. I swear to God I wish I could have played for a (expletive) manager like that."

Guillen Swearing In Public And Causation...
..or correlation?

The recent explicative-laced tirades by Guillen correlate to, or are caused by, something.  However contrary to conventional wisdom, historical trends point to something other than team performance.

So, given Guillen has job security, money, fame (in Venezula), power and solid connections for killer bud, what is up Guillen's arse?

Why is Ozzie Mad?

Ozzie's latest and A question.
"They can kiss my [butt] ... all those people in the United States, talking [trash] about me, about that problem," Guillen said. "They don't know what [stuff] we're going through every four hours and suffer. It's not easy."

"You think it's easy to sit there and watch what I watch? No. I want to have fun. ... I haven't had fun for one game yet because every time we win, we win by one and we have drama. I don't remember saying 'Wow, 8-0, last inning.' I don't remember it happening this year.

Here's my question, Ozzie.

"You think it's easy to sit there and watch what WE watch? No. WE want to have fun. ... WE haven't had fun for one game yet (IN THE LAST YEAR) because every time we win, we win by one and we have drama. WE don't remember saying 'Wow, 8-0, last inning.' WE don't remember it happening this year (OR IN THE LAST YEAR).

It's all about Ozzie.

Ozzie is going to write a song. The title?

He gets paid...
Make him pay to sit there and see how much fun he has!
I want one of those jobs were you are paid to sit and have fun!

Ozzie's just
keepin' it real. Put yourself in his shoes: what if you had a job where you made only a couple million and worked 10 months out of the year and didn't have fun?!?! What a nightmare! Poor Ozzie!

if you don't enjoy your job
or derive some satisfaction from it, you may want to work on that.

He's trying...
They just won't fire him. Can't walk away from nexts salary.

The media
would have to have pictures of Ozzie screwing a road kill deer for Reinsdorf to let him go. Ozzie kisses Reinsdorf's ass every chance he gets. Very shrewd.

I think the quote had something to do with
"get paid to sit and have fun", or the like.

If you do have a job where you are paid to do not much other than stroll a few feet every few hours (e.g. exchange lineup cards, remove pitchers, argue, etc.) and enjoy a few beers 3 hours later, well mazel tov, bro.

I sit, enjoy my job (most days), and get paid pretty well, but I think I'd trade it for the stress described by the Wizard.  (2-3 years worth, maybe I could handle.)

no way i'd trade my job
for being a baseball manager. very little control over the actual product, idiotic bureaucratic shit i have to deal with, and the travel sucks. the pay may be nice but it's not worth it to me.

Agreed.
There's an awful lot of aggravation involved in being a manager.  I don't think I'd be up for answering a barrage of questions every day.

Now, first base coach, that's a plum job.  Nobody bugs the first base coach.

you might get killed, though
i'll take bullpen coach any day of the week.

But the tail you must get,
and you don't have to face 95 mph heat.

Kidding.  I hate any kind of management.  I'd be like AJ and get fired in 3 days.

Give me bullpen coach, or bench coach.  First base is still to visible.  Rock got canned.  Has a Sox bullpen coach ever been fired?  Doubtful.

I think this FAMILY ATTITUDE, LOVEFEST -
Baines
Walker
Duane Shaffer - he was here 100 yrs.

really gets in the way of objectivity. Really hard to pull the trigger and let the guy(s) go.

Duane Shaffer - gone
Walker  ??
Guy in charge of player development -- fire him TODAY and hire the #2 guy for the TWINS.

Dysfunctional. Shake it up.

I like how...
the White Sox roll their eyes at the idea of bringing up Heath Phillips.

But Nick Masset?  Here's a job, sight unseen!

Ryan Bukvich?  Sure, you can pitch in high-leverage situations?

And they wonder why they're in last place.

By the way...
I saw a great photo of Iguchi celebrating after scoring the winning run in yesterday's Mets-Phillies tilt.

Good to see that somebody's having a good time playing baseball this year.

Doesn't it seem like
We've really plummeted since Gooch and Mack were given away. (Not that we were doing great prior to that). Anyone know what the stats are since the end of the deadline.

by Brush Back on Aug 31, 2007 11:16 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Good ole Gooch & Mack
I wanted to mention them too when I was putting all the VORP stuff up.  The Sox have completely cratered since we moved those two, and it's not a coincidence.

The only positive VORPS we have right now are Fields, Thome, PK, JD & AJ - that makes 5.  Gooch & Mack make 7, so while they were still here we only had to play 2 negative VORPS.  Now we have a minimum of 4 negative VORPs in the lineup every single day.  You just can not win that way, our 3-6 batters are getting absolutely nothing to swing at.  Thanks KW.

Yeah, national coverage
He looked stoked.  Great to be in a pennant race, ain't it?

And re: a "family" business, it's no different than someone with a family eatery, or a franchised gas station, or an auto body shop.  Family businesses are very tough to be involved with when you are not family - you just don't understand, nor have any family skin in the game.

So the key is to be part of the "Sox family" and realize that, in the end, you love 'em, no matter the cost.

Or, like some dysfunctional families, call a hit man and try to collect the insurance money.  Either way, like when Tommy got whacked in "Goodfellas", "there wasn't nothing we could do".  We suck.  And will continue to suck for a good while yet.  So, are you a fan?  Or a bandwagon jumper?

Me, I like to win, but I like to bitch when we lose, so I'm happy either way.

Richar makes me long for Iguchi
I cannot believe I am saying this but Iguchi is doing well with the Phillies and I wonder why he did not do well with the Sox this year? Is it Ozzie, Walker, the interpreter?

by Florida Jim on Aug 31, 2007 11:15 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

More like pathetic N.L. pitching...
Either way, I would love to have Iguchi back if the Sox were willing to move Richar to SS.

I have a new quote for Ozzie to use
when trying to explain his team's ineptitude, and it's embedded in this article:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,295355,00.html

The cop is a master of understatement.  If Ozzie uses it it will have a similar context.

the phrase Ozzie ought to embrace.

Mariotti
I was curious to see how much Jay Mariotti was enjoying this Ozzie implosion so I went to suntimes.com to check it out.  He doesn't disappoint...

Nice piling on
maybe Jay will now grace the clubhouse with his presence, eh?  He certainly knows what a "farcical" season at a high payroll is, having covered the Cubs for lo these many years.

What a tool.
