And a quote from White Sox Minor League director Alan Regier on Gio Gonzalez and Jack Egbert (wiz):

"I'm not afraid to recommend either one to compete for a Spring Training job. Just because we didn't get their feet wet at the Triple-A level, I still would have no hesitation to tell [general manager] Kenny [Williams] these two guys need to come in and compete for a job. They would be starters in the Minors. But as to how [White Sox manager] Ozzie [Guillen] and Coop [pitching coach Don Cooper] want to put together their staff next year, I don't think either one of them is going to turn down a big league job. ... Jack is the one who really shot up the board this year. Kenny wants sinkers here in our park and his two-seamer is an excellent pitch. He has three pitches to throw for strikes. He committed himself to be in the best shape he could be in, worked tremendously hard and had a tremendous season. ... Had the circumstances been different at the big league level, both Gio and Jack could have been called up and nobody would have blinked. Jack is the one who sprung himself onto the radar in Chicago, but Gio didn't do anything to hurt himself by any means."

Nice shirt
But I stand by my belief that we wont be able to out suck TB because of the remaining scheduled series. We would need to do a shit load of nothing in order to get Pedro. I know that Greg Walkers offense is pretty good at doing nothing but there are games like today when we just dont suck enough.

Encouraging news
http://www.presstelegram.com/angels/ci_6901073
Erstad said before the game that he has not decided if he will retire at the end of the season. The White Sox hold a $3.5 million contract option for next season or can utilize a $250,000 buyout.

"I haven't even thought about that and I'll wait until this offseason and get to that," Erstad said. "I have no idea. I'm not going to think about that. I'm going to finish it out here and worry about all that stuff later."

The first step is acknowledging you maybe should retire.

As long as the Sox don't pick up his option, or decline it then re-sign him, Erstad will probably join Alex Cintron on the involuntarily out of the major league list.

It's a rare 33 - 34 year old
who walks away from $1 million + for 6 months work. Darin will play in the majors next year, IMO.

i think you're probably right
but he just may have realized that he sucks and that he's embarassing himself out there - and it's likely to only get worse. he has made about $50MM in his career. $1MM doesn't look so tempting.
