gross
Outside of Konerko & Fields...that is one awful lineup.

3, 4, 5 of AJ / Konerko & Erstad.  Thats some protection for Konerko.  I also see that Podsednik is the DH...ugh.  Well, it's good to see that Ozzie is a fan of getting Pedro Alvarez.

AJ's back full time
so that's good (by comparison) but what a sorry excuse for a major league team.

Slightly off topic - I was at a work function (they call it a Leadership event in the Land of 1MM Dreams) and sat on a shuttle with a Sports and Rec guy with a Braves golf shirt on.  Turns out he used to play baseball at the minor league level.  We talked about the Sox and he assumed correctly that this is one agonizing year for me and all Sox fans.

The bit of perspective he brought (the reason for this meandering of mine) was when he said "You've got basically the same team this year as in 2005, don't you?"  Well, yeah.  "It just goes to show how much luck and timing are involved."

I stuffed his copy of "The Black Swan" up his arse and left the shuttle.

Why is Cintron playing?
Richar has had 2 hits in 3 of his last 5 games, he's starting to show some consistency. He had a day off Monday. He's 24 fucking years old. Baseball is not exactly exhausting for a 24 year old.

If you must, Ozzie, let Cintron play 3rd in place of Gonzalez. Oh that's right, he'd need a relay to get it from 3rd to 1st.

I was actually surprised...
that Jerry Owens came up from the minors with such a long, looping swing, flying open as he does.  He doesn't generate any power at all with it, and it just prevents him from making consistent contact.

I maintain that, by the time a player makes it to the majors, it's usually too late to change their hitting style, but I would have thought that somewhere along the line in the minors someone would have worked hard with Owens to generate a quicker, more compact swing.

Today was loss #81 of the 2007 season.  The Sox had five consecutive winning records until this season.  They were a .500 team in 2002, and it has been eight years since they finished with a losing record (75-86 in 1999).

Beginning Wednesday, street light banners commemorating a series of special events in Chicago are going on the auction block for charity.

Some of the banners were shown off Tuesday, including those featuring Pres. Barack Obama both before and after his election.

A White Sox World Series Championship banner, signed by pitcher Mark Buehrle, is also being sold, as is a Blackhawks playoff banner signed by Denis Savard and Stan Mikita.

The bidding starts at 12 p.m. Wednesday at Daley Center. Money raised goes to help the Chicago Anti-hunger Federation and the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
