"Chalk it up as a bad year."

Jermaine Dye believes a little too deep of analysis might be in play for what really has just been a miserable season for the White Sox:

"Chalk it up as a bad year. A lot of things went wrong as far as injuries. With us winning the World Series two years ago and having a year like we did this year, it makes it bigger than it really is. It's a learning process for everyone, and if we feel like we are getting into a rut, we have to find a way to climb out faster than this year."
*****

In other news,

  • Ozzie said Andy Gonzalez will get upcoming back-to-back starts at shortstop before the season ends.
  • Next week's rotation, according to Coop: Floyd on Monday, Danks on Tuesday and Javy on Wednesday. Buehrle will be skipped in order to keep his innings down. Coop is aboard the Pedro Alvarez express too.
  • The new Sox ad-agency: Chicago-based Energy BBDO.
  • Erstad to Detroit next year? The missing piece.
  • Kenny to deal Masset, Aardsma, or Sisco?
  • Winter Ball: OF Ryan Swenney is going to the AFL (Phoenix Desert Dogs), while CF Brian Anderson and LHP Andrew Sisco will play for Águilas de Mexicali (Baja California) of the Mexican Pacific League.

Also from now on

Owens' goal was a 1:1 BB/K ratio
He has 21 BB's, FORTY EIGHT K's.

I think he's slightly below plan.

Dye's comments
Gee, I had a bad year and got fired my family should chalk it off as a bad year. I told them I would bounce back next year they said next rut you are history. I say the same thing to  the $10,000,000 man next rut you are out of here.

Quick question:
What happens if we tie for worst record?
I hope, after this POS season, it doesn't come down to a coin toss.
It should be called Bill Veeck Park!

Keep Erstad on the payroll,
but make him play for Detroit.

Reminds me of a story re. Bob Pulford. Tfter his retirement as a player walked into the Maple Leafs front office. He said "You know I bleed Maple Leaf blue. I'll do ANYTHING to help the Leafs." The Toronto brass thought about it for a few days and told him "you can help the Maple Leafs THE MOST by being the General Manager..................... of the Chicago Blackhawks."

You reap what you sow.

Valuable perspective
I have seen much heartbreak in my years of fandom, but even at the worst of times I am consoled by the fact that the Wirtz family does not own the Sox.

That Ozzie said would be playing SS about a month and a half ago. Or do we have a new Andy - I ask because the other must not have been any good since he was never played there.

Poor BA?
Why should we feel sorry for him, again? Instead of him being traded, I'm hoping he learns how to play baseball and remains healthy. Whether that means playing in Mexico or Baghdad.

by TheKMan1 on Sep 7, 2007 8:03 AM CDT up reply actions

You mean he should learn to be faster?
Because that is the only place that he isnt better than Jerry Owens. BA has also shown that he can do very well in the Bigs unlike Jesse. Lets face it Brian wont be playing for the Sox unless Ozzie is gone. We just have to pray to God that we can get a capable CF in the off season, if Jesse starts in Center next year Im hanging myself.

PS  Are you BA's brother?  You have a serious case of puppy love for BA.  I mean, he's got great hair, but so does Jessica Alba, and I wouldn't want to see her in CF.

Yeah I know, lol
I just think that if the Sox were willing to gamble with him they should have stuck by their decision. Trading away the Legend and Chris Young and not willing to at least give Brian a chance after a bad rookie season is 7 different kinds of retarded.

And there was proof that could have figured it out
his two great months last year and his good numbers in spring training should have merited at least a month to show he could do it this year. But of course Ozzie wasnt going to allow that.

AFL is better

by larry on Sep 6, 2007 7:16 PM CDT up reply actions

HMMmmm
Mexico is considered AAA, but it's really less than that. More like 2.5A... It's got lots of hangers on (think Jose Lima) and losers... For some reason, I often hear it referred to as a breaking ball league. I guess there aren't a lot of hard throwers. The only current major leaguer I can think of who player there last season was Joakim Soria. I suppose if it's a breaking ball league, it's a good place for Anderson to be.

The AFL is like a who's who of prospects. Well, not quite, but it's generally loaded with up and comers. Last years graduates (players who've established themselves at the majors) include Yunel Escobar, Tulowitski, and Ryan Braun. It's considered a hitters league because teams often hold back their top pitching prospects while sending some of their best hitters, plus it's in Arizona. There are still a ton of pitching prospects though... here are some names you should recognize from last season Dustin McGowan, troy Patton, Humber and Pelfrey, Kevin slowey, Jeff Niemann, Jordan Tata and Virgil Vazquez, Luke Hochevar... I could continue..

Who picked this place for BA, Ozzie or KW?
I wasn't kidding about the desert, this is from wiki:
Mexicali is well known for its extreme weather. In order to avoid floods from the Colorado River, the city was built in the middle of the desert.  The highest temperature recorded in Mexicali was 52°C (about 125°F) in July 1995. Average July highs hover around 42°C (107°F). On the other hand, winter normals are quite low, with average January lows of 5°C (41°F) and a record low of -8°C (18°F) recorded in January 1949. The city was covered in snow only once, on December 1932.   Being used to this weather is a source of pride for some Mexicali residents.  It is well known as a  shithole in the middle of the ratlands, a place of exile for cocky CF prospects who strut to the plate like assholes.

A regular Garden of Eden this Mexicali.

Ozzie speaks (from todays Trib game recap)
"If we're going to put a team out there and we know we're not going to win, we're better off telling the fans," Guillen said. "I will say it, and I might get in trouble. ... I'm not going to be the same position now I was in the summer. I'm not going to put myself in the position to lie to the fans."

There you have it. They'll tell us BEFORE THE START of next season if we'll be competitive or not.

BA in Mexico
Doesn't he get "tengo chorro" when he heads south of the border? How can he romance the "Baseball Marias" when he's cramped up and running to the can every 5 minutes?

Muy mal!

Looks like babblefish failed you, tailgater!
I believe you meant to quote BA as "tengo churra", as in I have diahrrea, as opposed to "tengo chorro", which means, literally, I have a flow of water. Tengo chorro would only be used when a female is describing a heavy menstrual discharge.

In summary, tailgater, from the context of your sentence, I believe you would like to have written:

"Doesn't he get 'churra' when he heads south of the...romance the "Beisbol Marias" when..."

Enough of this Spanish lesson, next time I'm charging ;)
