Community Projection: Carlos Quentin

Quentin finished second in the last poll, so I figured he should be our next project.

You know the drill...

I took the high end on OBP
and a fairly low end on SLG.  .275/.370/.445

I haven't submitted my entry yet, but..
Is Quentin the most exciting player for the White Sox right now?  I say that because he is such a wild card, he could be an incredible asset and make a huge difference...or we may see a lot of Jerry Owens this season.  He might be the most important player, atleast offensively, for the White Sox this season.

I would say that Thome
is our most important offensive player, mainly because if he's out, Kong will be the DH, Swish 1B, and Jesse CF, which is a huge difference, obviously.

But yeah, a large part of the Sox season hinges on Quentin's ability to become a major league outfielder. If Quentin can become a plus-defensive, above average OBP doubles machine, and Fields can hold his September walk rate to go along with the other skills he showed in his rookie season, the Sox suddenly become an offensive force.

Those are all
Really big "ifs", but i agree. I think it shows how starved we all are for high upside prospects. It's fun to watch someone become a star before your eyes. Will it happen - who knows.... but it's fun to hope.

Bill James says...
380 ab, 100 hits(.263 avg) with 13 HR .341 OBP .455 slg%.

But he also said that would be in Arizona so what does he know.
I wouldn't mind Quentin in left/center, Swisher in the other spot, but knowing Ozzies past, theres no way that happens. Owens will have to suck for half the year to lose the lead-off spot, and Quentin probably wont see a lot of time.
Ill give him some ABs, since Thome or Konerko might show some wear & tear, putting Swisher at 1b, and opeing a spot for CQ.
My best guess(for AB, and copying the main man):
260 ab, 70 hits(.269 avg) with 9 HR .340 OBP, .455 slg%

I predicted...
an .830 OPS with 17 or so HR's over 410 AB's. I took a high prediction on his OBP and a somewhat reasonable SLG in the mid 400's. I think he'll do pretty well in his first season. Assuming he gets the AB's...

posted this elsewhere
but john sickels says: "If healthy, I'd say something like .270/.340/.460."

I'm extremely optimistic on him
Though I don't expect Quentin to be 100% and therefore really playing till mid May, I think we'll see a 2nd half season similar to what Rowand had in 2004, when Ozzie wouldn't play him regularly till 1/3 the season was gone, then couldn't get him out of the lineup.

420 ab, 122 hits, .290 avg, 20 HR, .370 OBP, .520 SLG and a lot of Sox fans thinking he's the new Mags. Remember this is a guy that did very well everywhere he played INCLUDING his first partial year up in 2006 when he went 166 ab, .253 avg, 9 HR, .342 OBP, .530 SLG. Now he moves to one of the best hitters parks in baseball with something to prove. I believe we're lucky he had some things happen last year that allowed KW to steal him.
