Top 2nd
Alexei almost takes off Haren's head, then gets picked off 2nd when Lucy misses a bunt on a fastball down the middle

This Ramirez kid (?)
just might be something.  And wait until he gets a full month's worth of regular meals.
I wrote this song after I killed a drifter to get an erection.

Floyd
Not sharp today.  Working behind in the count to almost all batters.  Sounds like he was working on alternating his spot to the opposite side of the plate with each pitch.

Crede is healthy
Hits what by the announcers reactions seems to be a mammoth shot out of the park 2-2

Sherzer is a horse too.
That's not your typical AA pitcher up there, just 3 HR given up in his MiLB career (100 innings)

trade Konerko to the Mets
If Delgado is down for significant time, any chance Konerko goes to the Mets for prospects, Fields moves to first and we keep Crede.

This would improve the defense and make the middle of the line-up less pathetically slow. The Mets would probably overspend for Konerko because they are a New York team. I just don't like the idea of trading Crede when he has practically no value.

Move Dye to 1st,
Fields to left.

Trading Konerko to keep Crede in the lineup...
is still the dumbest idea that I have seen suggested at all three White Sox message boards -- SSS, SoxTalk, and WSI.

The Crede fanclub
Will try any trade theory to keep their boy on the team.  I cannot wait till they get desperate enough to try and move Jenks and to have the superfielding god of the bat who  also be our closer.  The best of all world.  His electric Crede arm will strikeout all hitter, and those put into play can be gobbled up by his super range.

what magical Crede fanclub are you
referring to?  as far as i can tell (and i only frequent SSS and Sox Machine), there is none.
dude, that was totally not swish you saw on rush street last night. swish was at home playing xbox.

by colintj on Mar 1, 2008 6:35 PM CST up reply actions

That wasn't suggested.
But I mean sure, go ahead and, like, say things.  Or whatever.

I would call that statement hyperbole
Not dumb at all. In my opinion the reason we sucked in '07 was our aging, plodding, homerun-or-nothing middle of the line-up. I'd like to see it broken up.

Tell me how it makes sense to give Crede away for next to nothing? It doesn't strike me as a Williams move.

by rhombusface on Mar 2, 2008 11:31 AM CST up reply actions

Um
Konerko's a .350/.500 player, numbers Joe Crede couldn't touch in his best season. And he's not going to fix the plodding problem, he'll just increase the OBP problem.

the Mets farm is significantly depleted
they've got Martinez and...not much else.

And they've got basically no
position player talent, outside of a few very recent Latino signings.

What world
are you living in? If anything we let Swisher move to the more favorable position for him at 1B. Crede: HE GONE

I know of the ZERO correlation
between spring training performance, but:
  1. Last year there was about  99.999993% correlation for the Sox (granted unscientifically).
  2. I like that they're 3 - 1 against the same teams that BEAT THEIR BRAINS IN during ST last year. All of ST last year they were 10 - 22.
  3. Individually, they're playing much better. As a team they are batting .390, OBP .464. Not sure last year, but it was UGLY.

by ballyb on Mar 1, 2008 5:47 PM CST reply actions

It wasn't ugly
The White Sox batted .296/.360/.454 last spring, so, their hot start in 2008 is nice to see but it's not a strong indicator like you mentioned.  The Red Sox didn't even crack a .700 team OPS last spring

by 3E8 on Mar 1, 2008 6:15 PM CST up reply actions

The pitching was horrible

Oh yeah
Worst team pitching overall.  But bally implied the team batting was ugly too.

Grapefruit vs. Cactus
As I recall (without actually) looking it up, all but one Grapefruit league team would have ranked at the top of the Cactus league in ERA/pitching marks. While all but one Cactus league team (the White Sox?) outpaced the grapefruit league team batting leaders.

by The Cheat on Mar 1, 2008 6:48 PM CST up reply actions

Not quite true, but the disparity is obvious
Three Grapefruit teams had a higher team OPS than the lowest Cactus team OPS.  The Sox had the 8th highest team OPS in either league.

crede scouted on today's game
[MG]:
The Joe Crede watch officially started Saturday.

The San Francisco Giants had Ted Uhlaender, one of their top evaluators, in attendance to watch the White Sox's third baseman launch a home run off Arizona's Max Scherzer in the fourth inning of a 12-8 win.

Uhlaender was one of nearly a dozen scouts who watched Crede, and the Giants could use a seasoned third baseman like Crede.
