Btw, WSCR doesn't actually broadcast
these "interactive" games.  Farmer's there, and updates Ronge in the studio while taking calls from fans.  No actual play-by-play.
I caught part of the last one and it wasn't too bad.
Next time, Bhoov, do some research.

I'm surprised Matsuzaka didn't end up
on Vazquez' comp list... They throw essentially the same pitches, at about the same speeds, and get similar results.

Wasserman isn't listed (not enough time) but he would have been one of the outliers were he to qualify. He'd end up on the midpoint of the line that connects Cla Merideth and LaTroy Hawkins.

3 BBs by Sox pitchers.
All 3 scored.
Was that a ground out to 2nd for Owens?

5 DPs by the Sox.
No base clogging by us.

How can this guy not make the team?
A third-inning single extended Jerry Owens' hitting streak to seven, meaning he has a hit in every Cactus League game that he has played this spring

No one said that he shouldn't make the team...
Most people want him as a fourth outfielder or at least batting 8th or 9th if he has to start.

Not so bold prediction:  regression to the mean is going to be brutal for Jerry Owens after his hot spring.

Was just sarcasm
I don't view him as more than a 4th outfielder. However the franchise is sold on him as a leadoff center fielder. Speaking of, didn't they basically convert him last year - I thought he orig was a left fielder.

right
i'm fairly certain his primary position has been CF. you may be thinking about how he played LF in birmingham but that was because chris young was there, too. the better prospect gets to keep his position.

Topic: Uribe's contact rate (small sample ahead)
33 ABs, 1 strikeout

What do you make of this.  Uribe's K% has increased each of the last two seasons, over 20% last season.   Dangerously close to the 'poor' section on Fangraphs. For a guy who's obviously not going get on base via the walk (or slug much for that matter), at least he's not swinging and missing.  Clearly in '04, his best season, he was making much more contact than he did previously or since then in his career.

i think this is what i'd make of it
it means nothing.

if you'd like reasons for it, i'd probably cite facing crappy pitchers, juan liking fastballs and getting lots of them since many pitchers develop their feel for their other pitches later in spring, and small sample size. not necessarily in that order.

juan will, however, necessarily have to reduce his strikeouts - not to mention his flyball rate, which also has trended upwards - if he wants to be anything other than a utility player going forward.
