[editor's note, by The Cheat] For those of you who, like me, weren't fans of the Scott Linebrink deal, this quote won't help.
"The money, I mean, I would be lying if we said the money didn’t mean anything," Linebrink said. "The biggest thing of that deal was that [Williams] was willing to go to four years. We talked to a couple of other teams, and they were only willing to do three. That really opened up my eyes. "But the market, it was what it was. We started looking at comparable guys in my position, and that’s where it was at. We really didn’t increase the market by 50 percent or anything like that. Yes, it’s a significant contract, but the years were the biggest part of it."
Upon posting, I now realize that I misread the quote, but I'll leave it up anyway.

Masset
Has just made the team!
Don't Stop believing!!!Did journey not teach us anything?

This is for sure..
I condone Masset making the team for sure. I am liking these guys we brought in with Minor League contracts. Liefer, Getz and Bourgeois are all having a good spring thus far. It's good to see some depth in the farm system, assuming these guys are going to be around all year.

Hmmm...
so, you don't agree that our farm system should be ranked 30th out of 30 teams, I take it?

Haha
I would not be so bold as to make that claim. I meant more along the lines of when inevitably one of our older guys goes down for a month, we can call on some solid replacements (hopefully) to fill in seamlessly.

What exactly...
did Massett do?  I can't find details while I'm at work.

Massett had
3 hits over 3 shutout innings in the start for him. Swisher just went yard in that game. up 4-0 now

I did.
Was it an opposite-field grounder down the line?

Yeah, so did I.
I'm imagining one of those loopers where an infielder has to go back to get it at an angle and can't get the ball in before Speedy Jerry makes it to second.  Those duck snorts don't take any muscle to hit.

Swisher with 2 homers now...
Dude better be batting in one of the top 3 spots in our order.  He needs to get a lot of AB's.

tomorrow's lineup: richar debuts
ere's the White Sox's scheduled lineup for Monday's game against Kansas City at Surprise:

Richar 2b

Ramirez ss

Fields 3b

Dye rf

Liefer dh

Quentin lf

Anderson cf

Eldred 1b

Armstrong c

Danks p

Although many of the Sox's veterans aren't making the two-hour, 45-minute bus ride, the Sox are sending four projected starting position players. Many of the young players, particularly Ramirez, Quentin and Armstrong, will get a much-needed look from Guillen and his staff.

http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/03/mondays-lineup.html

can you name the four projected starting position players?

so good for my boy Nickie.

We'll see how much his sphincter tightens up...
when he is pitching in the regular season, since it looks like he is going to have a spot on the team regardless of how he performs this ST.  I'll bet that Masset won't be able to pull a greased tee out of his behind with a pair of pliers during the regular season, to quote Hawk.

The Cotts for Aardsma trade really sucked...
for both teams.
Neal Cotts was yanked after surrendering five runs in two-thirds of an inning Sunday versus the Giants.
It was a surprise when the Cubs opted to tender Cotts a contract in December. If he can't do a whole lot better than this from here on in, he might find himself released before his $800,000 salary becomes fully guaranteed.

I still think Aardsma has a chance at being a decent reliever but at least we got back a couple of flier prospects for him.

Hmm... what are some best case scenarios...
for our leadoff "position" ...

I think if Owens steps on a land mine or pulls a hammy and the CF job goes to Ramirez or Anderson, I think we have a best case scenario.

Thoughts?

Actually...
Quentin would make a better leadoff hitter than Owens.  Screw speed.  Let's see Ozzie back up his OBP comments...

Quentin
Swisher
Thome
Konerko
Dye
Fields
Pierzynski
Cabrera
Richar / Ramirez

by SSH2005 on Mar 2, 2008 11:33 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I was thinking right outta the gate...
this season. I haven't been paying much attention, but is Quentin fully healthy? If so, He'd be better I think than Ramirez or Anderson in CF. Let Ramirez backup 2B/SS or win the 2B job outright.

I just don't wanna see Jerry Owens anymore. <puke>

from the linebrink article
[JC]:
To hear the critics tell it, the four-year, $19 million deal the Sox eventually gave the right-handed setup man was way too much.

Linebrink answered those critics with that same ``aw shucks'' look.

``That's what I thought, too,'' he said, laughing.
