I guess no team wanted a fat shortstop...
with a sub-.700 OPS for $4.5 million dollars.

Shocking.

I can't believe
a Sox-Cubs game on the weekend isn't being televised, even if it is spring training.

Don't get it either

Is that an Anderson sighting in CF?

This slackard Brian Anderson,
2 crappy singles, only 1 RBI

And per Santo - "they've got 2 cheap singles here."

Was that a ground out to 2nd for Owens?

But the Cubs only have 2 stolen bases.
WHAT DOES Toby Hall bring to the team?

Listening on Gameday Audio...
Is like punching myself in the head. It never ceases to amaze me how many excuses ron santo can come up with for this crappy team. These announcers know less about baseball than a fifth grader.

I love Santo and Hughes.

Say what you want
But he did notice that Pie wasn't as erect as at the start of ST. That's some attention to detail.

That FJM link made my day.  I'm going to be repeating that bit about David Eckstein all day.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Yep, and take note Jerry Owens-backers...
"If people really think the reason we lost last year was because my arm wasn't strong enough, or because I didn't get on base enough, hey, that's cool, I'll be the man, I'll take it," says Pierre.

Look, spare me the martyr shit, dude. A guy who loses his house to a tornado is a victim. You ain't no victim. The Dodgers lost for a bunch of reasons. It definitely did not help them that they gave the guy with the second-worst OBP on the team the most ABs.

Nice to see Carrie Schueler get into the game
Strike that, Oney Guillen.  I wonder who is a better hitter, Carrie or Oney.

detroit signs miguel cabrera to 8-year extension
[baseballmusings]:
The Detroit Tigers lock in their trade prize for the next eight years.

Miguel Cabrera and the Detroit Tigers reached a preliminary agreement Saturday on an eight-year, $153.3 million contract extension, a source close to Cabrera told ESPNdeportes.com on condition of anonymity.

The All-Star third baseman will undergo a physical on Monday to complete the deal, the source said.

Wow. What a great deal. I would bet Miguel would get well over $20 million per year if he went the free agent route next year. We'll see what the final deal looks like Monday.

Great...
It sure is gonna be fun watching Cabrera (the good one) own us for the next 8 years.

Brian Anderson
is having one of the best offensive performances of ANY player in MLB. Call it crappy pitching, Arizona, whatever. 1.106 OPS.

Great defense, too. How many runners has he thrown out this spring?

Blue Jays release outfielder Reed Johnson...
Blue Jays have officially released Reed Johnson.
It was reported Saturday, but the Blue Jays just made it official. Johnson hit .289 this spring, but it looks like Shannon Stewart beat him out of a job. He'll get claimed off waivers rather quickly.

Source:  BlueJays.mlb.com

Can he still play some CF?  If so, I see the Cubs picking him up rather quickly to platoon him with Felix Pie.

He was the starting CFer in College
at Cal-Fullerton with Rowand playing mostly RF.

I knew he played with Rowand in college...
I didn't know that he was the CF'er and Rowand was the RF'er though.  Interesting.

Some team will jump on him.  He hits lefties hard and he can play every outfield spot.  He would make a very nice bench platoon outfielder.

ChiSox.com
got an overhaul... I noticed MLB.com looked different a day or two ago. It seems that all the team sites have been updated as well.

This is probably old news
I can never remember who posts what and when, so if this has already been posted, argued, and dismissed then forgive me please.  This is from yesterday's Sox/Cubs recap on espn.com
Ozzie Guillen is still trying to decide who will be his regular second baseman.

He said Ozuna will start the opener against Cleveland, but Guillen sees him as a utility man -- not an everyday player. That leaves Uribe and Alexei Ramirez, although Guillen could rotate second basemen.

"I think everybody playing second base is doing a good job so far," Guillen said.

I'm herding awesome!
