I guess the drama lies (for me)....
in watching Contreras, Egbert, and Ramirez.

Anderson as well....
I think he could have a shot at the 25 if he keeps this up. I could be fooling myself, but whatever.

Oh, and someone on Soxtalk said they heard on XM today Crede for Hong-Chih Kuo? Pass

I just hope there is no scenario in which
the Tigers unload Inge and somehow get Broxton back.

by stanchar on Mar 9, 2008 3:02 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That's fairly unrealistic...
I would at least hope so. Broxton is one of their top young players. I say players, because he's not really a prospect anymore. He's proven.

Yeah, you're probably right....
just hard to count Dombrowski out on anything.  But it is very unlikely.  Nice to see T. Jones get shelled again today.  For whatever it's worth I think we'll see Jason Isringhausen in a Tigers' uniform by summer's end.

The radio guys...
are so much better than Hawk/DJ.

I wish I could stream the radio and mute the MLB.TV audio. Is that possible? Or will my computer blow up?

Try two different browsers
You can right-click on the video and mute that.  Probably can't open both with the same browser, but if you have IE and Firefox, try one of each.

Hairston is fast! His legs move like in the cartoons. I thought that was a good strong throw by Ozuna at least.

Great episode, there was a lot to absorb.  Kind of like I figured, all parties had to cover everything up because of the enormity of the lie.  And I liked when Cheese got got.

Count
I'm glad to see him throwing the majority of his pitches from the 3/4 slot.  At first it looked so weird to me after watching almost 100% drop-down last year.  He's leaving everything up though.

He would be
best served playing eveyday in Charlottefor a month or two, IMO. Get acclimated to the USA, face DECENT pitching, work on the defense, etc. No hurry.
Was that a ground out to 2nd for Owens?

I'm with bally
a hot start against spring training caliber pitching shouldn't prevent the Sox from nurturing their investment.

by colintj on Mar 10, 2008 9:53 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

and one would hope
the management of the team isn't so stupid as to simply look at spring training stats and would - maybe i'm out on a limb here and, judging by comments on this blog, it seems i may be - actually take a look at a player when he's at bat or in the field and consider whether a player whom larry or jim at sox machine can figure out how to get out by watching a few plate appearances is who you want to be going with.

by larry on Mar 10, 2008 9:58 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm just saying he should be getting AB's
on a daily basis. Whether that be in AAA or the big league club, whichever. To me, I would prefer him with the Sox because I don't want to see Jerry Owens or Uribe up there. We know what we have in them.

  2.  larry

Anyone who is optimistic about our lineup...
I hope you didn't hear Joey Cora's interview.  Jerry Owens is the starting CF'er and leadoff hitter.  Uribe could be starting at 2B which is a good thing because he is a guaranteed 20 HR and 70 RBI at the 9th spot.  Alexei Ramirez still has a shot at the 2B job but he also kept saying that Richar's situation is unfortunate so it sounds like he will be at AAA.

by SSH2005 on Mar 9, 2008 4:33 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

not optimistic... at all...
If that happens I predict a 70-75 win season.

by Shoeless In SC on Mar 9, 2008 4:36 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Unoptimistic
The Sox offense will be bad this season. They had a chance to have better numbers from CF and 2B but keeping Owens and Uribe is just punting at 2 positions.

How in the world can the Sox trade Garland (and Cunningham) and end up downgrading the defense at SS and the offense at 2B?

by hitlesswonder on Mar 9, 2008 4:47 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I concur
I dislike Owens.
It might be Pods fault, but the thought of this guy in there every day seems VERY detrimental to the team.
I dont care about his stats in garbage time last year.

by Gus on Mar 9, 2008 7:04 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Look at Fields numbers too
He is not having a confidence building spring - so poss downgrading D at SS, 3rd, and keeping Juan's bat in there - then we have the outfield... I feeling optimistic until a few days ago - seems like we are falling back into the same old pattern again.
So instead of a big splash, there were ripples -- enough to change the tide, Williams believes

Anderson may be making contact on fastballs
But I just saw shades of '06 with him flailing pathetically at a bad curve that was well outside the zone

by 3E8 on Mar 9, 2008 4:46 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well that fits colin and larry's observations
That BA's swing and weaknesses at the plate remain unchanged. Maybe a hot spring will convince some team to pony up a B prospect for him though...

by hitlesswonder on Mar 9, 2008 4:50 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

it doesn't seem to be just breaking balls
he's looked pretty silly on some changeups low and away, too. you've gotta be able to cover the plate a little better than that if you want to play in the majors. the "hole" in the swing is still there.

by larry on Mar 9, 2008 5:18 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Egbert - my first look
-Works extremely fast
-Has a weird stop/hitch in his motion
-Slight tailing action on the fastball
-Threw two nice changeups for strikes
-Average curve
-All four balls were hit in the air

by 3E8 on Mar 9, 2008 5:04 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Liefer?
The way he looked that last at bat, we would have been better off signing Leiber and letting him take his hacks.

by parkermo on Mar 9, 2008 5:25 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

what I'm really waiting for
is the other shoe to drop on alexei.  There's no way a guy who can be average offensively up the middle would garner so little attention after trying out in front of everyone.  But I like what I see mechanically, his approach and pitch recognition look nice and the batted balls are line drive oriented.  I want to see what he looks like against a real plus pitch, but he's definitely better than BA and JO.

true but the usual reason for that is a lack of
access or unexpected changes a year or two down the road.  The story supposedly was that alexei worked out in front of everyone, right?  There was basically no interest, judging from the contract, except for (I'd guess) a couple 1-2 year fliers at maybe a mil per.
