Angels officially deny Dye-for-Figgins rumor

Los Angeles Angels general manager Tony Reagins on Tuesday said his team is not interested in trading for Chicago White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye. Reagins told the Los Angeles Times for Wednesday's editions there is "no truth" to a rumor floated by the Chicago Sun-Times on Monday, in which the Angels would acquire Dye. Reagins said he has not spoken with the White Sox since the winter meetings in December, and added the conversation "wasn't regarding any player." He also said he is not currently looking for an outfielder.

Figgins Rumors Won't Dye

According to a major-league scout, the Angels are the latest team to express interest in acquiring Jermaine Dye now that the Mark Teixeira ship has set sail to New York. Unlike the talks with the Reds that stalled during the Winter Meetings, the Sox and Angels actually have a fit.

Rumor: Orioles, White Sox discussing trade involving Gavin Floyd and Brian Roberts

Brian Roberts always seems to be linked to the Chicago Cubs in trade rumors, but White Sox general manager Kenny Williams loves the guy and is trying to acquire him. The two sides have discussed former Mount St. Joe pitcher Gavin Floyd as a starting point in trade talks. The Orioles might need more, though the White Sox would want it to be straight-up, since they'd be surrendering a 17-game winner. I edited UribeAuction's original link and text to point to the source. But here's a link to his site because we still value his contributions here

Evolution at Work: Konerko-for-Figgins becomes Dye-for-Votto-for-Figgins

We don't know whether the Red Sox will decide not to pony up and sign Teixeira or whether there really might be a three-way deal among the White Sox, Angels and Reds that would put Jermaine Dye in Cincinnati, Joey Votto in Anaheim and Chone Figgins in Chicago.

White Sox have "inside track" on Abreu

Bobby Abreu and his agents haven't heard from the Yankees since the season ended, but the free-agent outfielder is garnering interest from several teams. The White Sox seem to have the inside track, according to a source familiar with the situation, but Chicago would have to trade Jermaine Dye before signing Abreu. Stale news, but we needed a new thread.

MetsBlog: Braves in talks with Sox for Dye

According to WFAN’s Sweeny Murti, the Braves are in serious discussions with the White Sox about bringing Jermaine Dye back to Atlanta, where he began his career 12 years ago.

McCoy to White Sox: "Your Ship Ain't So Tight"

So far, on this chilly Monday afternoon in Dayton, there has been no confirmation or announcement on the trade of pitcher Homer Bailey to the Chicago White Sox (with a couple of minor-leaguers tossed in) for outfielder Jermaine Dye. As many of you might suspect - because there is no LAS VEGAS dateline on my newspaper stories, I am NOT at the winter meetings. The economy being what it is, it just made little sense for the paper to send me to the meetings for four or five days when news out the winter meetings is so scarce. Let’s hope there hasn’t been a snag in the deal. My source, reliable and an insider with the White Sox, says there is a deal in place. Or was.

[False] Report: Jermaine Dye to Reds for Homer Bailey

With baseball's annual winter meetings unfurling this week at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, rumors run rampant. A noteworthy one involving the Cincinnati Reds is making the rounds — pitcher Homer Bailey for Chicago White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye. A major-league source close to the situation told The Dayton Daily News on Sunday, Dec. 7, "The deal is done and will be announced this week." Update by The Cheat, 12/07/08 9:40 PM CST]: Both the White Sox (via Chicago Tribune) and Reds (via Cinci Enquirer) deny the report.

Mets still not ready to deal Fernando Martinez

[Mets GM Omar] Minaya always has refused to label any prospect "untouchable," but he kept Mike Pelfrey off the table last year at this time and he seems ready to do the same with Martinez. With the Mets connected to numerous reports involving White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye and closer Bobby Jenks, it was not surprising to see Baseball Prospectus suggest that Minaya was discussing a "blockbuster" deal that could bring both to Flushing for a package centered on Martinez. But a person familiar with the situation said yesterday there was "nothing there."
