Orioles not raising season ticket prices

It would seem to go without saying that when your team finishes last in its division for the first time since 1988 (Reagan was still president, guys and gals) that you wouldn't think of charging even more for your product. Well, fiscal sanity has seemingly struck the Orioles.

The price of Orioles season tickets at Camden Yards will remain the same for 2009. Orioles director of communications Greg Bader confirmed yesterday that season-ticket invoices have been mailed and there are no price increases. Individual tickets go on sale in January. The Orioles raised ticket prices for select seats before last season, marking the first hike in several seasons.

So, there's that. Now if we can just do something about shortstop and the pitching staff...

OK, I give up on the formatting, but I wanted you to have the fanacy stats. Honestly, I guess if you stuck a gun to my head, I'd say GO RAYS. Right now, I'm much more interested in the MD-01 Congressional race, especially now that the Dodgers are toast. Have fun, y'all.

Surgery on the left shoulder of Seattle Mariners pitcher Erik Bedard revealed no tears in the labrum or rotator cuff. Dr.Lewis Yocum removed a cyst from Bedard's pitching shoulder and performed minor cutting away of tissue on the labrum. The former Oriole said last week that he believed there was a tear. Recovery time typically is six months. He was 6-4 this year with a 3.67 ERA.

(Ralph) Nader recounted a recent meeting with editors at The Washington Post, who he said told him the paper wasn’t covering his campaign because he had no chance of winning. According to Nader, he replied: "Then why are you covering the Nationals?"

WaPo: Guts wants a shot at one last start

BALTIMORE, Sept. 23 -- After missing nearly a month with a shoulder ailment, Baltimore Orioles right-hander Jeremy Guthrie is close to returning, just in time for one more start.

Manager Dave Trembley said Guthrie will pitch in a three-inning simulated game on Wednesday, the last step before activating the pitcher from the 15-day disabled list. If all goes well, Trembley said Guthrie could be ready to start either on Saturday or for Sunday's season finale.

"He says he feels real good, he says he feels 100 percent," Trembley said.

From the Washington Post, btw.

So, we have the possibility of Jeremy Guthrie returning for one last start, because, well, he wants to.

I'm not feeling this. What's the upside? The downside is huge. Your thoughts, Birdland?

Wouldn't be surprised if Daniel Cabrera gets scratched from his next start, though nobody has said anything to indicate that he's pitching hurt.

Can't think of any other reason for him to be throwing his fastball in the mid-80s. This is a guy who used to be able to jack it up near 100 and today he looked borderline helpless against the Yankees. If you're keeping score at home: 3 2/3 innings, nine hits, seven runs, three walks, and I'm trying to block out all the other three-ball counts. It was only the second start of his career without any strikeouts.

New York Yankees at Baltimore Orioles, Aug 22, 2008 7:05 PM EDT

I have no idea why this didn't publish, and I'm in the middle of setting up my parents' new HD TV with Comcast. What a joy. Have at it.
