Can the Sox Eliminate the Yankees?

that would be so sweet. TB plays three vs Boston.

the Yanks are ten games back of the wild card currently.

If the Red Sox take 2 of 3 and the Sox take 3 or 4, could that be it?

Would a sweep get it done? Regardless of the TB/Bos series?

This was my post from a long dead game thread that I felt deserved some thought independently.

I predict...

1. The Sox go into Boston and take two games next weekend. Vazquez vs Beckett, Buehrle vs Matsuzaka.

2. The Sox will go into New York and end all Yankee hope for the post-season.

3. I will drive to Minnesota and blow off a few days of work to watch the Sox take the Central.

4. ESPN collapses upon itself leaving a giant crater in Bristol when the Red Sox and Yankees both fail to make the play-offs.

5. There will be at least two comments hammering me for my optimism.

Sox vs Twins To the Death

Well we waited all year, and they didnt go away, but now we get to see the true mettle of Minnesota.

They finally have to go on the road.

The Angels as good as they've been, the have done most of their damage on the road. Now I like their chances, and if our old pal Garland can help us out on the same day Javy finds a way to beat Kazmir, I'd be ecstatic.

After this weekend both clubs close out the month on the road.

They go to Seattle for three and Oakland for four. We head east to Baltimore for three, a day off and to Boston for three more.

September starts with the Twins flying from Seattle to Toronto. So thats good.

The Sox go to Cleveland then gear up for the most important home stand of the season. Angels, Blue Jays and Tigers.  The Twins get to come home and play KC and Detroit.

After that the Twinks hit the road for 10 straight, at Baltimore, at Cleveland, and at Tampa for four. That could be a good week for us, because the Sox go out to NY and take on the lowly Yankees then head to KC for the Royals. They both get a day off and then its the showdown in the dome. I might have to be sick that week at work and road trippin'.

Hopefully its a five game lead for our boys at that point, and we can get set up for the playoffs with the three game finale vs the Tribe while they close out at home vs KC.

New York Yankees

Are you like me?

Have you been watching sports television and wondered, "Hey, how come this channel never mentions the Yankees?  I sure would like to see more stuff about that great team from New York."

OK so maybe the timing is bad since the Disney sports station has crammed anything in pinstripes up our butts sideways for a solid month, but after all the hype and parades and a fifty minute delay of pure crap before the all-star game, I cant help but notice what this storied franchise is actually doing these days.

50-45, third place, 5.5 games out of the wildcard, and who do they turn to?

Richie Sexson? LOL. Are you kidding me? And then theres talk they might want to trade for Damaso Marte? Wow.

Im sure Boston is trembling with fear.

Heck, they're probably even laughing about that in Tampa.

If they had some real gnads they would go and sign baseballs big asterisk Barry Bonds. Then when they miss the playoffs, and they will miss the playoffs, they can blame Barry even though he'd probably be the second most productive hitter on the team.

I think this year marks the end of an era for the Stankees.

The new digs will ring in an era where Jeter* cant hit anymore(and hes been a liability on the field-http://www.billjamesonline.net/fieldingbible/jeter.asp ), they cant outbid for everyone because the profit sharing allows other teams to keep their stars, it all points towards the demise of NYY.

Good Riddance.

Meet the new Yankees, your Chicago Cubs. They'll be way up into the luxury tax bracket(or whatever its called) of payroll in about 2 years. Of course, they had to go for it now, 100 years is a long time. And just like when the Yanks were top dog, the Cubs dont have anyone in their division that is willing or capable of spending like that. Boston didnt used to match the Yanks dollar for dollar like they basically do now(and started doing when the desperation rolled in- the same desperation the Cubs currently reek of).

The Cubs have the nations hearts for whatever various reasons, and even have another team in town that the elitists and front running crowd can thumb their noses to, just like in New York. Plus with Yankee stadium getting demolished(and rightfully so-I was thoroughly unimpressed), the Cubs now are that much more epic with the ancient friendly confines.

I can only hope the Cubs turn into a team that is hated like the Yankees are in waves of backlash. So far its Cincinatti and the southside onboard that righteous crusade...

* the worst part about Jeter is that hes going to start in the next several all-star games like he did in this one, and as soon as next year might be blowing it for the AL like he tried to do this past weekend.

civil rights game- late edition

As in several days late.

We went to the museum saturday, and as Im about to leave I see that the Sox have arrived behind us. I decided I was there to see them play and didnt bother anybody, but the wife and my sister backtracked to greet them, shaking hands with Contreras, saying hi to AJ and groping Dye, likely freaking him out since we were also first row behind him during the game, she had a few libations flowing through the veins by then, and repeatedly professed her lover for him. Good times. It was cool to see those guys there, and the teams turnout was huge. Id guess 20 guys. I behaved myself for the most part, only yelling "Jenks!" to verify thats who it was and me and my brother giving him the cheesiest of thumbs up when he turned around.

on to actual baseball:

Swisher in centerfield is never going to work. When Beltran hit the HR off of Contreras on saturday, that should have been the Mets first hit of the game. I'm not sure if Ramirez would have got to the previous 2 base knocks, but Brian Anderson definitely would have and Swisher had no chance. With the pitching they have this year, Id love to see them give B.A. another shot before Owens inevitably returns out there. Are they afraid Anderson will earn the job for good or what?

I was a section down from the clown that smacked Quentin's HR back onto the field for a basehit. We had ourselves our very own pre-season Bartman. Those minor league umps will never see the bigs. That was so obviously a HR it was ridiculous.

Stubby Clapp has his #10 jersey retired in Memphis which is such a great name I almost took it as my new handle here. If only he wasnt Canadian.

Go Sox.
