Frank Bough Out, Widger's Back

As expected, The White Sox announced today that they have bought out Frank Thomas' contract for '06, making him eligible for free agency.

"There should be no question about the respect this organization has for Frank and all that he has helped us accomplish, including a World Series championship," said Ken Williams, White Sox general manager. "He is the greatest hitter in White Sox history. At the same time, it is my responsibility to make the best decisions I can on behalf of the organization. Our plan now is to continue to speak with Frank and his representatives over the coming months as more information is known about his health."
That last part of the qoute makes it pretty clear to me that this is going to be a long offseason.

Everyone's favorite back-up catcher signed a 1-year deal with the Sox today. Rejoice.
