  • Bad news for Gio Gonzalez. The diminutive lefty was placed on the DL with a pulled muscle in his side. I doesn't sound like anything major, and supposedly he should miss only one start.
The Kannapolis Intimidators placed LHP Gio Gonzalez on the disabled list with a pulled muscle in his side. The move is retroactive to April 26th. Through four starts Gonzalez is 2-1 with a 1.23 ERA and a league leading 38 strikeouts. Gonzalez will miss his start Friday and expects to return before his next scheduled outing.

  • Jerry Owens, who was acquired from the Nationals in the Alex Escobar trade, changed his batting stance after struggling in the first couple weeks at Birmingham. Since the change, he has torn the cover off of the ball. Before he went 1-5 with a triple tonight, MILB.com lists his line at .318/.364/.341.

  • Brian Anderson, who went hitless today for Charlotte, has been the White Sox offensive star of the minor league system thus far. Again listing his line before tonights game, MILB.com has it at .338/.407/.623 with 4 HRs.

  • Finally, a Brandon McCarthy update. He pitched again Friday night, earning his second victory of the season. It wasn't a particularly dominant outing, allowing 4 earned runs and 2 HRs. He did, however, have 11 strikeouts in just 6.1IP, to raise his season total to 40 in just 29.2IP. He's got some nice peripheral stats, 40K 9BB, but the 5 HRs are a bit of a worry. Part of that can be explained by the bandbox he plays in at Charlotte, but USCF isn't exactly known for suppressing the longball either.
