Kris Honel Outrighted

According to Rotoworld, Kris Honel has been removed from the White Sox 40-man roster and outrighted to Birmingham.

Here's what I had to say about Honel just a couple weeks ago.

Before last season, Baseball America ranked Honel as the second best prospect in the Sox system. A little over a year later, I don't even consider Honel a prospect anymore. He had a lost season last year due to injuries or whatever, and he's picked up right where he left off this season. I wouldn't be surprised to see him out of baseball at this time next season.
Clearing waivers is the first step to Honel being completely out of the game.

The real surprise of this move is that it's essentially unnecessary. The Sox don't have to protect anyone by placing them on the 40-man until after the season when the Rule-5 draft rolls around. This signals that there might be something in the works. I would speculate that there may be something wrong with Damaso, but likely replacements Arnie Munoz, Paulino Reynoso, Felix Diaz, and Jeff Bajenaru are all on the 40-man roster already. Though it could be something as simple as putting Jamie Burke or Ben Davis on the roster.

I don't want to get your hopes up, but the extra spot may be the Sox clearing room for an upcoming trade. That they cleared room on the 40-man signals that it would be a trade that brought multiple players in return. Knowing Kenny Williams, we should expect a move sooner rather than later.
