White Sox Acquire Geoff

Early Sunday morning, the White Sox and Padres agreed on a deal sending utility man and switch hitter Geoff Blum to the Sox in exchange for minor league pitcher Ryan Meaux to the Padres.

Blum has a career line of .253/.317/.396, and was hitting .241/.321/.375 this season for San Diego. Meaux, in 69 IP this season for the Birmingham Barons, posted a 2.93 ERA with 64 K's.

*There's still over an hour till the deadline and as soon as I find out who gets sent down (from the Blum move) or who gets traded, I'll post it.

And, as you can see, my internet is working. Hopefully it will continue working. Fingers crossed...

Update [2005-7-31 17:19:34 by CWSKeith]:Apparently, Willie Harris and Ross Gload have been optioned to Charlotte, and Jon Adkins has been recalled.

This move doesn't make sense to me at all. Simply put, Adkins isn't very good. He put up a 4.65 ERA last year, in low pressure situations -- which was a decent job (106 ERA+). However, he's been awful this year at Charlotte, posting a 5.58 ERA in over 120 IP. Plus, the Sox lose their best bat off the bench in Gload.

Even if Ozzie wanted another arm in the bullpen, I'd be okay with it -- but why Adkins? Why not all the other guys doing better than Adkins with the Knights, like Jeff Bajenaru, Arnie Munoz, Josh Fields, or even Felix Diaz?

Honestly, I hate this move. Adkins isn't very good, and he's getting a shot over (at least) four other players who deserve a shot before he does.
