Podsednik, Buehrle on Oprah

Pods, Burls, and the lucky fan
Pods, Buehrle, and the lucky fan
I'm not usually in the habit of watching Oprah -- though I did make sure to catch the re-airing of the second James Frey appearance -- but I'll be sure to tune in to tonight's rebroadcast at 11:05PM here in Chicago.

On the show, Podsednik and Buehrle present a White Sox fan with a dream package that included season tickets, throwing out the first pitch at opening day, a trip to spring training to work out with the team, and a trip to Pittsburgh for the 2006 All-Star Game.

What did the fan do to deserve such a generous package? He collected items for Hurricane Katrina relief in his garage, but couldn't afford the out-of-pocket cost to ship the supplies to the affected areas. His solution: sell his two World Series tickets to pay for the shipping.

You can tell that Buehrle and Pods haven't quite reached true celebrity status yet because they have to wear their uniforms on stage for anyone to recognize them. Can you imagine Michael Jordan wearing his Bulls jersey to do something like this?
