Kenny puts the scouting staff on notice

Kenny wants better amateur talent evaluation from Shaffer & Co., who are in charge of the draft:

[Joe Cowley]

"We've missed on our evaluations from our amateur scouting department too often. The scouting department has been put on notice. I expect more from them. ... The goal is for this organization to be one of the top organizations in baseball, and in order to do that you have to have sustained success. That starts first and foremost with your scouting and player development. I've always believed that they lay the foundation. The message was communicated that just because everyone in the room was wearing a World Series ring, complacency is not acceptable. If anything, it's time to take it up another notch. 'Here's what I'm looking for in particular, here's why I'm looking for it in particular and here's what I expect the results to be.' So everything is under review -- everything."
Mark Gonzales says professional player evaluators will now help evaluate amateurs:
Pro talent evaluators Dave Wilder and Doug Lauman now will assist in scouting top amateur prospects.
