The prognosis on Toby Hall's shoulder is such that surgery would mean that he's out for the entire season. With that knowledge, the Sox and Hall have decided to attempt a vigorous rehab program with the intent that, if all goes well, Hall could possibly be back in action by May. Surgery still seems to be the most likely option, even if the Sox are publicly saying it's 50-50, but there doesn't seem to be any harm in putting off that decision for a month if Hall was going to be lost for the season anyways.
