Mark Gonzales reports:
In a move that addresses the future, the White Sox and senior director of amateur scouting Duane Shaffer have parted ways after 35 years. Shaffer was offered another position with the team this week but declined. ... General manager Kenny Williams was highly critical of the amateur scouting department ... Shaffer never had a top-10 pick in 17 consecutive seasons. Nevertheless, his drafts came under heavy criticism for not selecting high-ceiling players.
Prior to today's game vs. the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago White Sox reinstated outfielder Darin Erstad from the 15-day disabled list. Erstad, 32, had been on the disabled list since June 1 with a sprained left ankle suffered during a sixth-inning at-bat on May 31 at Toronto. The White Sox were 5-14 during his absence.
Grinderstad's leading off today.
