Stop me if you've heard this one before...
For a brief time on Monday it looked like Jermaine Dye was headed to the Boston Red Sox for a package that included Wily Mo Pena and one of Manny Delcarmen or Justin Masterson. Then the deal was dead with the White Sox looking to sign him to a 2-3 year extension. And now Kenny Williams is reportedly sleeping on a different offer from the Red Sox involving Pena and (presumably) lesser prospects.
I find it hard to believe that the Red Sox are the only team offering a package worth more than the two picks the Sox would receive by offering Dye arbitration at the end of the year. And I don't even know how Dye fits into the Boston lineup/outfield. Though it's not difficult to envision finding room for a guy who's hit .318/.392/.727 since the All-Star break.
If I had to guess, I would say that Dye and Rob Mackowiak will be wearing new uniforms by Wednesday but that every other player on the 25-man roster will stay with the Sox. Whatever transpires, we promise to be on top of it here tomorrow. After all, the trade deadline doesn't conflict with our Gilmore Girls viewing schedule.
